I'm Sad to Say.......

We could not make it through the week without a trip to the MD. SK has a had terrible cough runny nose and found out today she has a double ear infection. Oh My!!!!!!!!!! She got good and healthy last week and here we go again. SK has acted very normal until this afternoon and she started running a little fever. I knew she had a little cold.

I have just worn my girls out with all the activities we are involved in. I am going to have to drop something. SK has to be in the nursery for everything I do and she just cannot handle it right now. We need to slow down. Last week was so nice because we did not do any of our activities. Emily never questioned a thing about missing her stuff and she got to snuggle in bed with me every morning and sleep late. It was nice!

I just want to make it through one week without a MD visit.
Good news: I think we have hit our deductable!

I know............I've learned I'm just going to have to sit out a lot in life right now until Harper gets older. There is a time and a season for being active in church or serving in lots of areas and this is NOT it. :-(
Oh. Laurie, I am so sorry!! We've been to the Dr almost once a week over the last 6 months, too! I finally took Ella to the ENT because of all the ear and sinus infections. SO worth it!

It was so good to meet you in person this weekend!! So sorry about SK...my little guy has the same thing. No fun at all! I hope you guys can all get well and stay well!
I am so glad that I am getting to keep up with you and the girls through your blog. We miss you! I think we are dropping MOPS in the spring...

I am so sorry! Sometimes there are just weeks like that. My little one was home sick this week too. Normally she goes to child care and my husband and I work. It was so nice being home with her. It was such a treat even if she was sick and a little grumpy. Hope everyone gets better soon!

i've been a mom for four years now, involved in everything that whole time, and this year i finally obeyed God's call to let it all go! we're not involved in a single organized thing this season, and being an unhurried mother has been the greatest unexpected blessing!

Bless your heart - you've been through so much. When our babies are little, we do have to cut back on activities, but I know the Lord understands. Our ministry is first of all with them, I think. It's a tough balance.

Oh Laurie, I'm so sorry...If it makes you feel any better, don't feel bad for them. It is really only you that is missing out. Until Emily and SK start ASKING to do things, I don't think think there's much they're missing. My opinion of course. I think we've been conditioned to think our kids are supposed to be in all of these activities when really they're for US. Lowrey is six and she now asks to do things so I know the time is right. But just this morning, she had a meltdown and I could tell she was exhausted and I thought, yep, something needs to go...just b/c she wants to do it doesn't mean me as the parent doesn't need to regulate it. No BSF tonight, even though it is Bible Study!

Hey, I echo the encouragement of the others on here. I just see my kids as so much healthier *(physically and emotionally) when we are not running and gunning. And I really do believe that if you maybe chose 1 event a week to go to, every one of you looks forward to it and enjoys it more. A lot of training takes place during those times at home. If you are out, it is easy to become distracted by others, catching up, etc. and just miss those teachable moments with your kids. Our girls are all in school now and I don't regret just having my 1 day a week out for sanity during those early years. The days are long, but the years are fast. I'll pray the girls get well soon! Sara
Often times God uses our bodies and health to tell and guide us to slow down and pull in. I remember how often my kids got sick when they were little and it can be very exhausting at times, especially when you have two or three little ones. The childhood illnesses do come to pass (the amount they get sick) as they get older. My kids still get sick now, but certainly not as often. Praying tonight for God to sustain you and for your kids to enjoy the simplicity of playing at home.
So this is the second time you have posted about how busy you are. The activities you do are things you want to do not things that are musts. Your girls will only be this age once. Before you know it they will be grown. Why not consentrate on them instead of activities. I hope this does not come accross rude.

Bless your hearts!!!!! I totally understand. I have been so guilty about dragging Cilla around as much as I do. A couple of weeks ago I vowed to stay more and get her completely healthy and on a better schedule!

It seems like we always have to pull out of things in the winter too...one of my kids catches everything and then passes it around. It's a smart decision to try to minimize the sickness! It's so hard when they're sick, not just on them :)

I don't think I have ever commented on your blog before (I think I found you through Kelly's Korner but I have been lurking for awhile so I don't remember for sure!). I am sorry to hear about the cold! It's so hard when your kids are sick. I hope you are able to find a balance that keeps you involved but away from your MD.

On a totally random side note, if you have time and you don't mind - could you email me and let me know how your kiddos like the kitchen in the picture? We were looking at that as a possibility for our little girl for Christmas (she'll be two in April). We have been looking at tons of options online but it's so hard to tell if they are any good! I would love to hear about one from a real Mom. (mooreka6@msu.edu) I tried to find your email on your blog do write you instead of leaving this long comment, but I couldn't find it.

Hope everyone is healthy soon!

I did the same thing...with all the activities. When I had 3 I wore myself out just doing small errands. I vowed in the summer.."less is more". We all enjoyed really having no plans. Now if I could just transfer this over to the school year. My 6 year old keeps me hopping and there is really not much to cut out. Enjoy those cuties!

Bless your girls!! I know how it is...try getting them adjusted with a good family chiropractor. I know it sounds crazy, but our 2 1/2year old has had one ear infection (@ 6 months old), and after getting her adjusted, she has never had another. I'm praying for your family!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
