Smiles

My head is spinning, literally. I have some sort of upper respiratory infection or a cold. I am not sure what I have, but I have been feeling very light-headed for the past couple of days. My head is also spinning from the crazy week we have had. We made another trip to the MD last night. I made appts. for both girls to get checked out. SK's finger was still bleeding yesterday around 4:30. She has a terrible zit on her cheek I wanted checked out and she has a runny nose and cough. Emily was still running 102.9 fever late yesterday afternoon. I knew I could not sleep until they saw their MD. The MD said that he would have put a stitch in SK's finger, but at this point it was too late. He put her on an antibiotic and he said it would cover her face and congestion. He also gave us Bactroban to use on her.
Emily STILL has an ear infection and croup. He put her on a Z-Pac.
I am happy to report that both girls have had good days!!!!!!!!!
I think Sarah Kate's finger looks horrible, but the MD said that was to be expected for several days. Her poor finger does not seem to bother her at all. She does not cry when we wash it or when the MDs have looked at it. She has been so cheerful and sweet, but will not keep a bandage on it. It is driving me NUTS!
Emily has been so good to Sarah Kate this week. She calls her "Sweetie Girl."

I have been keeping up with Kelly and Scott on their El Salvador trip and it has made me put everything into perspective.

oh Lori!! Praying for you & the girls. And I've been keeping up with Kelly in El Salvador. Talk about an amazing trip. I've learned so much just from her posts. I sponsor a little girl in Indonesia so it's neat to see Compassion from her pictures :)

Here is an idea put one on each of the girls fingers and tell them who ever keeps theirs on the longest is a winner! Kids like to win:-)
Bless your little heart...you have had quite a bit to deal with lately! I'm convinced God made kids so resilient b/c He knows how hard it is to see your children in pain, especially when you aren't feeling great yourself! Glad to hear that things seem to be on the up and up though, have a great weekend!

Try the sinus rinse by NeilMed. They have it at Walmart and Walgreens. Works wonders for congestion. Not all that pleasant to do, but TOTALLY worth it!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
