Three Thoughts

Sarah Kate had Western Day at School.  She has "lost her thinking" about clothes again.  She is back to only wanting dresses and skirts.  At least I got her in shorts and pants for two weeks.  That is progress!


My FAVORITE Fall candle right now is Autumn from Bath and Body Works.  I also like most of the Yankee candle Fall scents.  Autumn Wreath and Farmer's Market are great!!!!


A sparrow landed on my cart in walmart today as I was picking out some peaches.  I let out a loud sound that got the attention of two ladies.  I told them I was scared of birds.  I was a big girl and carried on with my shopping!

I have never been scared of birds, but after reading your blog, they frighten me now...

I thought of you at Target the other day when a big black bird landed on top of my car. I was trying to get it to go away from about 50 feet back, and it wouldn't move. I started jumping up and down in the middle of the parking lot, waving my arms frantically with no luck. I inched closer and closer and opened the back of my car to load my groceries, and it still wouldn't move. It was sitting RIGHT above my driver's side door. I finally loaded all of my groceries, I slammed the back shut - nothing. That bird was not moving.
So...I did what every normal human being would do. I got in on the passenger's side and just climbed into the drivers seat. I taught that bird a lesson, huh? :)

I wish my littlest would wear a skirt, a bow, somthing smocked. If it doesn't have a dog on it, forget about it. :) Oh the joys of strong willed girls!

So sweet really - very lady like.
I like that she wants to look feminine and so pretty :)

She is such a cute cowgirl! My mom went through the same thing when I was about Sarah Kate's age. I started only wearing dresses, then only shorts (even if it was snowing), then back to dresses. It was about 3 years of that but Mom decided to pick her battles and just laughed when I'd go out in the snow in shorts and come in about 3.9 seconds later for hot chocolate. HA! Good luck and sorry to my Mommy. ;)

Cute little cowgirl! LOL, you and birds, you would have been scared when we had birds come in through our chimney at the first house I grew up in and we had to chase them out. We don't get too many scented candles.

I have a girly girl, too - she'll be 4 in a few months and for the last year has refused to wear anything but dresses or skirts. I have bought some of the cutest short sets and pant sets, only to have them hang in her closet, so I've finally just given in! If it's not a dress or skirt I don't even bother buying it. If I buy something new, she will look at me very leary as I pull it out, "is it a dress?" she'll ask and if I say yes, she loves it, if I say no, she doesn't even hesitate - "I don't like it, Mommy. I only like dresses." There could be worse battles :)

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday. So Kristen thinks she has new toys especially for her and Emily is content playing with the remote, magazines, cords and...
