Parents Visit

Steve went deer hunting this weekend with Scott in South Arkansas. My parents came to visit me and the girls. We had a good time together. Meme brought the girls these puppies. They are crazy about stuffed animals! I never cared much about them when I was little. Emily loves to play school with her stuffed animals. I told her last night that she might be a teacher when she grows up and she said no, " I am going to be a checker at Walmart." We have heard this several times.

My Dad went to the Razorback game with one of my best friends, Beth's husband. This is Daddy and Joey before they left for the game. I think they nearly froze toward the end of the game.
Meme and Emily playing dress up.
Emily about to leave for school. She is so proud of her ponytail.

Well, yet another batch of Sea monkeys has died under my care. Forget it, we are done with them. I don't think Emily was very upset at all.
I am happy to hear that some of you tried the roast recipe and liked it. That makes me feel good!

While my parents were here. Daddy took Kristen to the vet. I had to take SK to a birthday party at the same time as her appointment. I always have to schedule her appts when my parents are here or when my friend Kim can help me. Taking Kristen to the vet is an ordeal. It takes two or three adults to go the the laundry room or bathroom with her (small place so she has nowhere to hide.) Then we have to capture her in a pillow case and lower her into the carrier. This Saturday we did not have to use the pillow case. It was an improvement!!!! I usually have to call the vet and tell them we are going to be late because we can't get her in the carrier.

The girls look so sweet with their Meme. As far as Kristen, tip the cat carrier up on the closed end. Then hold her up under her arms and her back feet should point down. Then put her in back feet first. It's worth a try because cats can find unheard of strength when trying to stay out of the carrier.

I just love your blog!

Saw this on a friend's Facebook page and though of you and Kelly!!

You sound just like me with your cat. We have an outdoor cat and this Saturday we had to trap her and bring her to the vet. Its so hard for me to make an appointment because I never know where she will be!! ha Glad, I am not the only crazy cat person!! :)

I put those peppers on my bbq porkchops and they add so much flavor! Yum! Seeeee, maybe it is the water you are putting your sea monkeys in. You aren't using tap water, right?? Sorry. How CUTE! Hey! When I was little I wanted to be a checker at Harp's!!! I loved watching that lady peck away at the register buttons!
I have to say I'm surprised your dad took Kristen to the vet AND brought her home. I figure he might "accidently" push her out of the moving car! I love Kristen!

Wonder what is happening with your Sea Monkeys? You got me started with Sea Monkeys and I LOVE them! As a matter of fact I got a second bigger tank! lol
They are my babies! lol
Too bad yours didn't take off. My kids were interested in them the first day and then that wore off! But I'm addicted to them now! lol Have a great week!

Wow! Your cat sounds like she really hates the carrier! If my cat was like that I think I'd be to scared to even try to catch it to go to the vet! Using a pillowcase is a clever idea though - I would not have thought of that!

I have read your blog for awhile and never commented but had to when I read that Emily wants to be a checker at Wal-Mart. That was totally my dream as a child. For what it's worth, I'm a lawyer now :-)

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
