Days of Old

My friend, Maegan has a BEAUTIFUL house!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She has an eye for beauty. Her house reminds me of Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, the beach and a farm house all in one! LOVE!

This week she found this basket for me and told me of a great place that had a lot of antique mason jars.
This is the look for our new farm table right now.
I love all things old/vintage.

Very nice! We have some old mason jars that were my Grandma's which are filled with glass beads in one of our bedrooms upstairs but I live on a actual farm though!

When we first moved down here we built a earth home then a while later we had to build a 2nd story since our earth home was having too much condensation so we've lived upstairs for 9 years now (got it ready just in time for my brother's wedding reception even though their catered Indian food didn't get here on time).

Love it!
I love this look too, Laurie! Although we haven't found any real Mason Jars yet, we are slowly replacing many of our pantry containers with glass jars we've gathered here and there.
We've also started to collect 2nd-hand enamelware cups/bowls for our 3 yr old boys to use instead of plastic,
Have you visited the fun, Christian website http://www.sugarpiefarmhouse.com/ with Aunt Ruthie- I love it and it's very vintage!

Love mason jars! I raided my grandma's kitchen a couple of years ago and have lots of them! So many fun uses! They fit right in with our old house in the country. :) Does your friend have a blog? I'd love seeing her ideas!

That is SO neat! My grandpa gave me a bunch of old jars. I think I need to find me a basket like that and stick it on my dining table. Thanks for a great idea!!!

Your mason jars remind me of the ones at Cherry Hill Cottage. Have you seen her blog? She used to have a really cute display of her mason jars. She put them in an old round canning rack, the kind that holds your jars when you put them in the canner to boil- not sure what its called. Anyway, I looked high and low for one of those things forever and then figured out I had one in my old canner in the attic. She uses it to hold her mason jars and then puts a few daisies in each mason jar. It is so cute!

Laurie, I do LOVE your wire basket and jars. I love the idea about the fresh flowers you are putting in the middle jar each week. I really would love to come over and bring in some "cottage!" Thanks for your sweet comments. I don't feel that way about my house.

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
