Teeth Torture

Funny little Sarah Kate. Some of the things she is saying these days: "Bumbalina" for Thumbelina. "Wash cleaner" is the washing machine. When she can't hear me she says, "What said?"

Every October I have teeth trouble! Every October we spend hundreds on my teeth. Every October I have a root canal and a crown. Yesterday I had a dentist appointment for my six month cleaning and check-up.
I am happy to report that I do not need a root canal or a crown! But, I do have to have a filling replaced. I also have the beginnings of gum disease. I don't floss my teeth like I should. The dental hygienist sent me home with a small torture device. I am to dip the bristles of this green thing in some special medicine and put it in between each tooth. TWICE A DAY! I tried it last night and I might as well have used a baby bottle brush cleaner between each tooth. That is how terrible it felt. It was like sticking a bristly needle between each tooth and twisting it. Miserable! I got tears in my eyes as I did this. I am going to try to do this. Dentures are looking better each year!

Oh my! I have teeth trouble also. I have so many crowns ~ actually I only need two more and every molar will have one. I have a high bacteria mouth and even with brushing 2-3 times per day and flossing every night this is my fate. Pooh! I have for crowns that need replacing right now. It never ends......

ugh...teeth care! I have always brushed and flossed well and have had like 8 cavities filled! The last time I went, they had to replace 3 of them! I actually like going to the dentist to get my cleaning, but dread it at the same time, because I never know if they are going to find a new cavity! This reminds me, my 6 month check up is next week! oh boy!

I feel your pain. I have had many crowns. I have had my fillings replaced with crowns. I don't get it. I brush, floss, listerine, have more than the norm cleanings, etc. My husband and I go in and he has NOTHING done. Ever. I get two crowns per year actually (insurance). I have the cost ($$$) of a small boat in my mouth is what I tell people. My teeth hurt too. Crowns have not been my friend. Your post makes me feel better. The funniest thing is, is that people have always told me I have the prettiest smile! lol! -I'm not kidding!

I've used a thing similar to that when I had braces but my Dad was my Orthodontist and somewhat mine and my sibling's dentist too before he strictly became just braces only though.

girl...i have such teeth problems...i try so hard to take good care of my teeth and have so many problems...there isn't a procedure that i haven't had done...well except dentures.

when i tell my dentist to pull them all and give me dentures he says "exchanging one set of problems for another set".

next week i begin the procedure for getting an implant...8 MONTHS!!! first pull the tooth, build up the bone, 4 months later put the implant thingy in, 4 months later i can finally get a post and crown on it.

AHHHHH the money i spend on my mouth!

okay...done ranting...LOL

love your little SK and her special words...little kids are so funny

Put that "Rx mouthwash" in a water pic (I like the "water flosser ultra) It comes with an attachment that has a rubber tip to it. Keep in on the lowest setting, a 1 and "irrigate" or trace along your gumline. Do the inside & outside, upper and lower. It does an amazing job to kill the bacteria under your gum tissue (which is where the problem starts) You may go thrugh the chlorhexidine much faster, but NO pain pushing that proxy brush through ;) Google Oral DNA, it's a new company that actually tests for the bacteria in your mouth. It's an amazing tool for your dentist and hygienist to be able to identify & actually TREAT the cause of the problem. Good luck! (Yes, I am a dental hygienist)

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
