Outfit of the Week

Well, Sarah Kate has moved from being addicted to the moneky shirt to this ballet costume. She has not mentioned the monkey shirt since Saturday. I am thinking this ballet attire could be much worse. She could actually wear the monkey shirt out, but not so much this ballet costume, especially when it is 32 degrees outside. My grandmother made this for me when I was three years old for a preschool performance.
Sarah Kate loves watching her Barbie Nutcracker movie. She wants it on ALL THE TIME (the movie and the costume). She calls herself Clara.
The shoes were Emily's when she took dance. This is the outfit of the week and it is a struggle to get her to wear anything else. I took this picture of her around 6:45 this morning. She put it on the second I got her out of bed.

I need some help on something................
I am tired of low-rise jeans. I can't seem to get away from them. I bought a pair of jeans Sunday at T.J. Maxx and I was sooooo happy because I thought they were going to cover me up. NOPE! I have spent the day today pulling up my jeans so I won't moon people. I AM TIRED OF IT! None of the jeans I buy say low-rise but they are. Or...maybe it is my "muffin top" that pushes the jeans down.
Any suggestion of jeans that look good and and come up high??????????

Laurie, I have one pair of NOT YOUR DAUGHTERS JEANS. Try them!

I love GAP jeans...they can be pricey, but last years and years...I'm with you on the low-rise thing...hate it...just stay away from "mommy jeans"! Ha! Not very flattering.

they are kind of pricey, but..."joe's' jeans" are great!
the "the muse " fit are the best. they come up to your actual waist, do not look like "mom jeans", won't show off your "coin slot", and....i can usually wear a size smaller in them than my other jeans - SCORE!

I typically wear Old Navy's boot cut...they might have also been called something with the word "diva" in them. I like them because they aren't too much of a low rise but they also don't go up so high as to make me look like I'm 4 months pregnant. :-P Also, you can't beat the price, and if you don't like them you're not out much.

Do you all have Kohl's in Arkansas? I love the jeans from the brand Apt 9. Good luck! I've found that when I find a pair of jeans that fit me and I like... I get 2 pair!

My 2.5 yr old loves ballet right now, too! Hilarious watching her dance! :)

I'm no help with jeans. I found some Calvin Klein at Marshall's and then had my sister-in-law write down the SKU and look in another city for the exact same pair because I can't mail order that stuff! This has to last me until 2012! :) (some friends like eddie bauer)

I have two pair of Old Navy's "The Dreamer" jeans that cover me pretty well. Good Luck! Please share if you have success!!

Ann Taylor Loft Jeans are fab and are not low rise!

Laurie, I know you don't have a Limited in NWA (or when I was there you didn't), but next time you are out of town go to the Limited and try the 312 jeans. I had the same problem but I found these and never want to take these off!

I have a big "rear" and have trouble finding jeans that dont 1-gap in the back when i sit and 2-show the crack when i bend over haha...The best jeans I've found are the ones from Walmart. I used to wear Old Navy but they switched to low rise too but Walmarts jeans are comfy, dont come too high, and are only $9. I wasnt a fan at first about getting jeans from Walmart but hey, now I'm about whatever works!!! Love the ballet costume! I used to be a dance teacher! haha

Do you have a Maurices by you? They have a variety of different types of jeans and they have some that are just below the belly button. Check them out.

I second the Ann Taylor Loft jeans. They are the best!

Maternity jeans. You pull them up and they stay up. ha ha ha ha ha!

You know I don't wear jeans unless I'm pregnant so I have no idea.

But at least the monkey shirt is gone.
Sara said…
I have always had good luck with Old Navy and Gap jeans. They may be low cut in some way, but they stay up better - not sure if that is just the way they fit.

So glad you can move on to something other than the monkey shirt, but i agree, atleast you could wear the shirt out of the house:) Ha!

Gap Jeans are perfect. I've always hated low rise jeans. The new line of Gap Jeans are amazing!!!! The skinny jeans even look flattering on ladies that are built like "ladies" if you know what I mean!

I bought a pair of jeans at Kohl's by Daisy Fuentes and they come higher up and weren't "Mom Jeans". Joe's Jeans are usually higher rise (and higher in price)..they're really comfortable though.

Gap jeans are great! I just seen on the internet that high-waisted flared jeans are making a comeback...eww! ;)

GAP-Perfect Boot Jeans. NEVER have to worry about showing too much :)

So sorry no suggestions, because in the stores all jeans are in my opinion low rise whether they say it or not. The last jeans I got were from Target that are not low rise, but that has been a couple of years ago. Love to know if you find any?

I know what you mean. I want a jean to come up or almost up to my waist. I love jean pants and jeans. Also if you have a Belk's they have a brand Kinberly something that fits great. I just got a pair. Good Luck!!
Kelley said…
Ha! I can't believe I'm even commenting on this - I am so not a shopper; however, that said, I just came home from Target today where I went specifically to purchase nothing other than jeans. I'm 2 months "post baby" so what I had in my closet didn't have a chance of fitting, so I happened upon this line by chance/desperation about 6 weeks ago. It's their Merona brand and they have 6 different "fits" - some low-rise, some mid-waist, and some just below your waist. At first I went there just for something to wear; I've dropped another size now, so today I went back just because I like them and wanted a size that fits. I personally like "Fit 1", but give them all a try - I bet you'll find something. My tiny tweenager even got a cute pair of skinny's from that line today that fit her perfectly!

Try the Eddie Bauer curvy fit jeans -or really any of their jeans. I live in several pairs that I purchased from there and I even teach preschool in them. The trouser jeans from GAP outlet are great too! They look great with flats or boots and they fit!

Ann Taylor Loft makes awesome Trouser Jeans that aren't low rise at all. LOVE them!
Brian and Sarah said…
Lee and Dockers have trouser jeans that are "no gap" around the waist. They have a little bit of elastic in their waist band so they really do stay up over your hips, hide muffin tops (I can vouch for this!) and come in boot cut, trouser, etc. I found them at Kohls and Belk, and their regular price is around $35, so pair that with a coupon and they really aren't bad!

I have a few pairs of jeans that could be called low rise, too. I always wear a belt with them. It really helps with the tugging up and the jeans going too low in the back. All of the tops/sweaters/fleece I wear hang on the outside of the jeans so the belt can't be seem.

sarah kate is such a sweet heart!!! enjoy the innocent years! they grow soo fast!!
as for the jeans i swear by the gap's jeans!

I like the diva jeans from old navy and merona from target. If my jeans have a gap in the back when I sit down, I wear a belt. Just got one at target for 9.99 and it usually doesn't show because I try to wear long tanks under my shirts. Hope you find something you like!

I noticed our Seven jeans didn't make the cut this time. But I did see someone mentioned Maurice's. That is where I am buying my jeans now and they also come in petite which you will need. Not sure if yall have one in NWA, but they have them in Collierville and here in Biloxi.
I had the same problem after my daughter was born. Joe's Jeans are the best! You can buy them at anthropology (that's where I got mine) or Nordstrom. They can be pricey but I bought mine 2 1/2 yrs ago and they are still my favorite pair and still in great condition! They will last you for years so worth the money. Look for jeans that say 'high waist' or sits on the waist.
I am going to buy suspenders. If you do it too, we will start a trend. Ha!

I love Gap Petite Jeans & for my splurge 7 for Mankind Petites. I am 5'0" and I never have plumber issues when I wear them.

BTW my daughter is 4.5 and she comes up with some crazy outfits. We let her express herself within reason, but there was a time she wore rainbow legwarmers with everything...she likes to channel the 80's :)

I love Silver jeans! They are a bit pricey, but not much more than Gap jeans. They stay up really well, and they have some cuts that are not low rise at all.

I get ALL of my jeans at Old Navy. Try the "Sweetheart" or "Dreamer" rise. Those are supposed to be "Classic Rise" and sit at the waist.
Laurie -- I have had three babies -- all girls -- the last arriving five months ago. I found some Sonoma Life Style jeans at Kohls and love them! They even have a hidden panel that makes you look five pounds thinner -- not that you need that! The best thing is that they were less than $20.00. Check them out!

I have had a lot of luck with Lee jeans from Kohl's. I had to get over the stigma that I remembered from junior high where you wouldn't be caught dead in Lee jeans. But they are super flattering - a little higher waist, but still under the belly button.

Long & Lean jeans from Gap!
I always go to the buckle & tell the worker that I am A LOT older than her & have had a baby & that no one wants to see my butt crack. They have always found the perfect jeans for me. Usually they are buckle brand or Big Star.

Lucky brand has both low rise and high rise (i guess you would call them. A little pricey but if you have an outlet mall and they have a Lucky store you might want to take a look. I live in California and Lucky jeans are big out here. They have every leg cut too. Good luck!

I have heard good things about NOT YOUR DAUGHTERS JEANS...but I have found good luck with Target jeans..in fact I think they say NOT LOW RISE on the tag-LOL Merona maybe? I feel your pain. I laugh and laugh at your posts. You should have quite the following.

I think you should just moon people.

Try Not Your daughter's Jeans or Gap Long and Lean. Silver jeans are really nice and so many of my friends (we are in our 30s) wear them well. I am afraid the Gap L&L might still be too low for you, but they are my fav. The lee Signature at WM are awesome for less than $20.

Try Gap's Perfect Boot Cut - they're not low rise and they're amazing!

I wear GAP jeans, but I only buy them at the Gap outlet because they carry the curvy fit, which comes up a little higher and has more room in the bottom and thigh areas. They are $35-39 a pair at the outlet. I don't wear any other brand!

I love Old Navy jeans. The Sweetheart style is really great. They are a classic rise. Stay away from the Flirt and Diva styles, they are lower rise.

I hate jeans these days! Why do people want their stomach fat to hang out over their jeans. It isn't attractive at all! I like the old navy dreamer jeans. Great!

Old Navy Flirt Jeans! Boot Cut...Love them! They are a midrise cut. Good Luck.....finding a good pair of jeans is like finding a good girlfriend...they are hard to find but worth the search! :) Blessings, Jennifer in Fowler, IN

My favorite jeans are Joe's Jeans. I wear the Starlet and they cover me, but they also have a ton of different styles. Try eBay if you're interested, you can get them faaaar cheaper that way! Sometimes TJ Maxx carries them, if your TJ Maxx is a good one!
Alyssa said…
Oh! I said Starlet! MEANT Socialite! Definitely NOT Starlet!
Laurie, after I had the twins, I sold my "low-rise" jeans via consignment. I could still "wear" them, but it was not becoming :). So, I hear ya! Anyway, two that I've found that I really like are Calvin Klein (I get mine at Belk), and believe it or not the UltraFit Slim Leg Jeans from Lands End are great!! I didn't think I would like them, but I love them! Both the Calvin and Lands End are mid-rise, retain their shape, and no more re-adjusting ALL THE TIME!

I read through some of the comments other people left. I'm sure a lot of them are great for them, but it is very dependent upon your body shape, and they won't work for everyone. For instance, I loved the look of Joe's Jeans. BUT they don't fit me because I have thick thighs and a wide backside. Someone told me about the Long and Lean jeans from the Gap and I thought I am NOT long OR lean, so those would never work for me! I have to tell you, I tried them on and now that's all I buy. They are wonder jeans!!!!!

I will echo everyone else and say give GAP jeans a try. I love them and they have a nice variety of cuts to choose from.

Also, I sooooo feel your pain when it comes to wardrobe struggles with kids. This week my 2.5 y/o decided that he does not want to wear clothes AT ALL! Just underwear. As you can imagine every morning we have had a major "show-down" in order to get him dressed. Ahhh..the joys of parenting. haha! Let me know if you come up with any creative solutions! For now I guess you have your ballerina and I have my jungle-boy and someday we'll look back on it and laugh. ;-)
Big Star Jeans in "Maddie" fit. The only place that carries this fit is The Buckle

I just wanted to echo the Ann Taylor jeans. I am about 5'3" and don't usually like how petite fit me(and all others are too long) but ann taylor has a "curvy" style and the petite, curvy fit me perfect!! Also if you watch for the sales you can get them for less than $30.

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
