Bek and the Bird's Nest

Waiting on a haircut.
I did a post a couple of weeks ago about my fizzledust hair. I am oh so very thankful for a wonderful hair girl(that is what I call her) This is Bekah. She has done my hair for around eight years. I can never go to anyone but her. She knows the fizzledust better than I do. She knows how to make it look thicker. She cuts my hair dry. When you only have 40-60 strands of hair, it does not matter if you wet it or not. I wish Bek could come to my house and cut my hair once a week to keep it looking great! All Bekah has ever done to my hair is cut it. I have never colored my hair. She works at Freshair Salon in Fayetteville Ar.
Bekah also cuts my girls hair. She is so good with them. They are usually pretty still and well behaved.
During the cut.
Back home with cute hair!

I did not get Emily's hair cut today. She wants hers to be very long. She is always saying she want" Punzel Punzel hair." I plan to get it trimmed this Fall.
This is the bird's nest Emily built on Monday. She knows that birds build their own nests, but she wanted to make a big one for a bird family. She said that hers was better than what the birds make because she used no sticks, only soft grass. She has been calling birds out in the sky and trees for two days to come and get in her nest.
I am terrified of birds. My worst fear is that one will get in my hair or on me. I really think I would pass out or have a seizure. Emily said today, "Mama, I will just hold your hand and protect you when the birds come to my nest."
Emily's goal for the afternoon is to make the nest bigger. She said, "the birds have little tiny eyes and they probably just can't see the nest."

Sarah Kate's hair looks adorable! Love the "nature girl" Emily built a bird's nest and she is going to protect you! How sweet!
lol. I'm also terrified of all birds. My friend in college had a parakeet and I would almost have a seizure when I'd walk into her dorm room and then realize her bird was out of it's cage.

When I first read the title, it reminded me of my daughter. One time she got her hair cut and wanted to keep the hair. Our stylist made the mistake of saying that birds sometimes use hair for nests and then we HAD to bring it home- to make a nest. Sheesh! SK's hair is super cute!

SK's hair looks so cute! Emily is such a grown up little girl. I had fun with them on Monday and would love to watch them again. WE'll have to do that one night so you and Steve can go on a date. Have I ever told you that I think processing my hair (color/highlights) makes it much more easier to work with. Jimmy, my hair guy, says the damage helps. Maybe you should try it!?!!

Bekah is such a sweetheart...just love her! She encouraged and prayed for me for so long while I was trying to get pregnant. Her Dad was Alex's pastor growing up too. Small world!

SK & Emily are adorable as always! :)

P.S. You really do make me laugh. I think you should write a book...just write all of the funny things that you and your girls say and I will buy it.

We are a Freshair family, too. And I also have a little one who cries for long hair. I love it short, but we are trying to let it grow like her sisters. Sarah Kate's hair is adorable. So sweet.

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
