This has been a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I was getting ready this morning, Emily gave herself "the perfect mullet." I came into the living room and my heart sank. There was hair everywhere and Emily had a mullet. I cried, then I would laugh, cry, laugh, cry, laugh. I called Steve and he did not answer. I called my Mom and I called Kelly. Emily cried with me. All I knew to do was get in the car and find a professional who could help us. In the meantime, SK put some of the hair on the floor in her mouth and that was an ordeal. Emily was crying, I was crying and Sarah Kate was crying. The first salon I came to helped us. Steve came and met us there to see the hair and talk to Emily.
This is the sad thing.................... Emily is proud of her work. Loves the new " do."
I am sad, but I realize it is only hair. It will grow. I did the same thing around the same age under the kitchen table. Ever cut your hair as a child????????????????
As E was putting her shoes on, I realized she had also colored on the new painted built- ins and wall. I have tried Magic Eraser and it changed the color. I am just going to call the painters to come back. Some of you asked about the new wall color. It is called Danish Pine from Pittsburg Paints. I actually got the paint at Sherwin Williams because they can do computer color matches and I had some coupons.
I will post more pictures later. We stopped by Aunt Kelly's and she took some pictures of the mullet. I needed a friend to laugh with me!More pics coming soon. Emily is asleep right now.

You might try rubbing alcohol to clean your built-in's. My boys used green perm. marker on my finished hardwoods and window trim - it worked! I read about it in Simple magazine - love that magazine ;) Good luck!

You don't know me, but I'm a reader of Kelly's blog and had to take a peak at your daughter's "new do!" Thankfully hair will grow and you got a good laugh out of it - kids are so funny! I love the paint color you used on the mantle and built-ins - I am thinking of painting my kitchen cabinets a color like that. Would you mind sharing what color it was? Bonnie and I used to "cut" each other's hair all the time, my mom had to hide ALL scissors in the house. She chopped mine off to the scalp once..my Mom was livid! The good thing about hair is it grows back..thank the Lord! :)
Long story "short" - I took her to a professional hair dresser and she cut it into a cute wedge - and the bride still wanted her - so many people remember the wedding and ask Sarah now, "oh, you're the one who cut her hair off!" (She's 17 now.) I also have an Emily - but she never cut her hair so I had no previous experience.
Please blog a lot this week so those of us who usually check Kelly's blog can visit you while she's not blogging! (Although I do visit your blog even when Kelly's blogging...)

Can I just tell you that my youngest daughter (who is now 5 1/2) has cut her hair not once, but TWICE? The first time was the day before her 4th birthday party and the second time was 13 months later when she was 5 and totally knew better!
I whisked her off to the beauty shop the first time, and I think she really enjoyed that... potentially too much, if she was willing to do it for a second time a year later.
When I asked her why she cut her hair the second time she replied, "I couldn't find any paper."
Seriously. Totally deadpan.
I didn't know whether to roar with laughter or cry out in fear of what her future escapades will almost certainly entail.

I came to your site from Kelly's. I had to check out the haircut! A few years ago my then 6 year old daughter "accidentally" cut my 4 year old daughter's hair TWO days before their Christmas pictures! I still had their pictures taken! That was a true scrapbook moment!!!

One of my kids did this once but thankfully I walked in in the middle so the damage was minimal. Im sure I have many more "haircuts" in the future...my daughter is only 19 months old.
and as for the marker on the wall...its amazing how much google can help! my 4 year old wrote his name on our dining room table pads with a Sharpie! i googled it and it said to write over it with a dry erase marker and then just wipe with a wet cloth...couldnt believe it, but it worked!!

Let me tell you what... as a hairstylist myself, I have seen some really bad self creations! But she must have done a pretty even job to get that cute of a style! You might have a little hairstylist on your hands! I starting cutting my Barbie's hair as a child and still doing hair and loving it more every day! But hopefully you wont have to go through that again, btw once a child does it once they are over it! ~Amanda
