Argh

 The girl's school is celebrating being drug-free.  Today they had to dress like a pirate.  When I got the note, I thought, "well they can just forget that."  BUT....my sweet friend Tracy brought these pirate accessories to church last night so that the girls could participate.  The girls were soooo excited!!!!  So was I!!!!
I learned about this Bible at Dot Mom last Feb.  I bought the Bible this Summer and we LOVE it!!!!  I LOVE the way everything is explained.  It is a wonderful Bible!!!!  Get it for your children.  This week, I was in bed with Sarah Kate reading her the story of the Last Supper.  Here is what it said," Then they sang their favorite song. And walked up to their favorite place, an olive garden."  Sarah Kate lifted up her head and said, "uh...they went to Olive Garden?  That place made me throw up!"  We got a good laugh!  Several years ago SK got a virus after eating there.  She will not go near the place now.

We have been reading this to/with our children since they were tiny and we all love it. A couple of years ago, our son realized that every story-Old & New Testament ends pointing to the cross & resurrection. He now gets so excited to announce that he knows how each story ends :)

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday.
