Have to Make my Own

We spent the weekend as a family in Branson.  Saturday was my parents anniversary.  We had a good time together.  I took my camera and planned to get some good pictures.  I pulled out my camera as soon as we arrived at the Branson Landing, only to discover I had left the memory card in my computer at home.  SO, no pictures to document our fun time together.
I had eaten sorta light and healthy all last week in anticipation for my favorite meal ever at Cantina Laredo.  We get seated after a good little wait, I opened my menu only to discover that "the dinner"  I always order is GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WAS ANGRY!
Yep, the waiter tells me that it was taken off the menu, BUT, he said they could probably still make it for me.  They did and he got an extra tip from Steve.
Yet another menu item forever removed from a menu to the locked vault of bad sellers, unwamted items.
My first all time favorite meal was Shanghi Shrimp at Market Place Grill.  When I was pregnant with Emily, they took it off their menu.  I have spoken to the manager twice about this terrible decision.  Ha!   A couple of weeks ago I found a recipe in a magazine that looked and sounded a whole lot like the Market Place recipe.  I have made it twice and it is almost the same.  VERY GOOD!

I BIG SHOUT OUT to my mother, Mary on her Birthday today!!!!!  I love you and you are a wonderful mother and friend!

We go to a little bakery in our small town that is run by German Baptists - they dress like the Amish - and they had these lemon poppyseed cookies that my son absolutely loved. They didn't sell well, though, so they stopped making them. When I asked the owner about it he offered me the recipe. Thought that was pretty nice - but I'm horrible at baking.

Laurie, That made me chuckle when you got mad that your fave item was removed from the menu! I understand how you feel. Cantina Laredo is my favorite restaurant too! I'm happy they were able to make it for you anyway. - Emily

Oh, no!! They took your favorite item off the menu AGAIN??? So sorry. That's like me and Citra, the best Coke product ever. I don't even drink soda and I loved that!! Not a great seller. Never drank it again. :(

Literally died laughing. If the restaurant isnt' closing, it discontinues your entree. You must feel like you have horrible taste in food. I understand your pain. It's like we have it in our heads what we're eating and then when they don't have it it ruins the entire day!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday. So Kristen thinks she has new toys especially for her and Emily is content playing with the remote, magazines, cords and...
