Valentine's Day


I took the girls to visit my parents this past weekend.  We had a wonderful and relaxing time.  The girls love to make Jello with my mother. 

We had a wonderful Mom conference at church last weekend.  It was just what I needed!  I left the retreat early on Saturday morning so we could get on the road.  My parents live about five hours away from us.

Tonight I am making red beans, rice and sausage for our Valentine's dinner.  I have never made it from scratch before, so this will be a test.  We have learned to stay in on this day so we don't have to fight the crowd.

Last night,  I watched Hoarders and then My Strange Addiction.  It made me feel so normal and I felt like my house looked spotless.  There was a lady on my strange addiction that grooms her cat by licking her and then eating her fur.  I laughed so hard!!!!  I DO LOVE Kristen the cat, but I would never in a million years do this.

Oh my goodness! I saw part of My Strange Addiction! I just couldn't believe that crazy cat lady! I nearly have a panic attack if I get one little hair on my tongue. How she manages to chew and swallow all that is BEYOND me! :)

How did the red beans and rice recipe go? If you liked it, please share. Looking for a good one for Alex and I've never made it. :)

I'm laughing so hard at your comments about my strange addictions and hoarders. It's so hard for me to watch those shows...I gag the entire time. LOL

If I was watching that show I would have, without a doubt, thrown up. I am with Hillary. We have a dog that I really don't let in the house. He stays in my husbands man cave if it is cold or snowing. If I had a hair from him on my tongue I would have a panic attack. I think I am on the other end of the spectrum.

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday.
