A Very Merry Christmas

We have spent the past several days at my parents house in South Arkansas. We had a wonderful Christmas. I could not have asked for a better one! Here are the girls on our way home. We stopped at Braums and I got their chicken fried steak. Yum Yum!
Aunt Kelly got the girls some princess make-up for Christmas. Oh they love it! Their mother- not so much! They have coated their faces in it daily. Sarah Kate says that she looks so beautiful. Little does she know that she looks like she is having a bad allergic reaction or some sort of illness. I think she has lipstick around her eyes.
We spent Christmas Eve at my cousin's house. They loved seeing Snow, the puppy.

I think Emily's favorite gift was her Easy Bake oven. I would be better off if all my cooking came from an Easy Bake oven. I would be VERY thin. It makes tiny amounts and it takes forever.

Sea Monkeys. We will see if these survive. Emily was so excited to get these.

Your girls are presh! :) Funny because my first thought when I saw SK's picture with the makeup was awww what happened?! I was totally thinking she had a reaction to something. :) Such a sweet pea!!

Looks like a wonderful Christmas. Love everything about the girls, the easy bake, the make up....with 3 boys, it's such a joy to see little girls with girly stuff :)

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday.
