Sweet Things

My wonderful neighbor, June, brought us these darling cupcakes last night. She brought more, but they were gone at the time of the pictures. I am so impressed with her creativity. They tasted just as good as they look. I am a huge fan of sugar!

Emily told me she was "Barbie" in this attire. Humm..not sure about that. But, she thought she was looking good.
Sarah Kate has started sleeping through the night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is 9 months old! haha! I read a book about 3 weeks ago and it was our answer to the sleep troubles. It is called" Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." I put her to bed between 7:15 and 7:30. I had made the mistake of keeping her up, thinking this would make her sleep. Early bedtime is the answer!

I am so excited because one of my very best friends and her family have moved to our area. Beth and I grew up together. We have stayed close through the years and even get closer as years go by. I have had so much fun since Beth has been her the past week. It is so nice to have a friend that you can just totally be yourself with. Beth and Joey have a little boy, Baylor, who is 5. Emily thinks he is great! When he came over last week, she went and put on some earrings, necklace and sandals and began calling Baylor "Sweetie."

Sarah Kate is getting so big! That long hair makes her look like a little girl and not a baby. I'm ready to see your girls again! I'm with Kelly, Emily is hilarious. She's going to be the class clown and the drama queen. Can't wait! :)

When Olivia was about 5 months old we decided to do early bed time and to just put her to bed and let her cry until she went to sleep. It took her about two weeks, but since then she's been a great sleeper and at four and a half still takes a long afternoon nap. We've done the same thing with our other kids from birth and they are both great sleepers too. It's amazing how changing a few things can make such a difference!
Your girls are adorable!! Love the cupcake idea I will have to do that for my niece and nephew. They will love them. Glad Sarah Kate is sleeping better. Mommy needs some rest (tee-hee)

Happy birthday, Laurie! You will always be so special to me!!! Your girls are so sweet. I love all the pics you put on here. So glad SK is sleeping better. Wish I'd thought to suggest that before, I had a friend tell me that worked for her too. Something about the sleep cycle. Anyway, Happy Birthday, April Foo-ella.

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
