The Latest

Friday was my birthday and Steve and the girls got me this princess ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. I think the girls did the picking, don't you?
One of the funny things Sarah Kate is saying these days is calling the washing machine the "wash cleaner." Great name!
Emily loves to take pictures. She took this one of Kristen and said Kristen was having coffee.
This morning at Bible study, we had a VERY sweet lady in our church share about decorating your house for Spring. She is so talented and she gave away some door prizes as she went along. I was a winner of this wreath. I am so proud of it. I think it is so pretty and a wonderful reminder of God's faithfulness and the beauty that He creates. I LOVE Spring!

I have to take the movies back to Blockbuster tomorrow. I am a little nervous, but you better bet I am going in to find out what happened with the bird.

Another funny of the weekend:
I took Emily to a birthday party of Sunday afternoon. The party was at a park and they had miniature ponies for the kids to ride. Emily rode ponies the entire time! The ponies went around on a turn table type thing over and over. The ponies were really small. They were just as small, if not smaller than Tiny Tim, the horse that I paid $1 to see at our county fair. Yes I did. They claimed he was the smallest horse in the world. Haha!
All the kids ate cake, but Emily wanted to keep on riding. I walked over to where the kids had been forming a line to ride and I stood there watching Emily ride. I just wanted to get close to her and talk to her as she was riding.
The young man that was there with the horses looked my way and said, "Do you want to get on this one?," as he patted the horses saddle. I said, "oh that is fine, I just want to watch my daughter." As soon as that came out of my mouth I noticed a darling little 5 year old girl standing right behind me that goes and hops right on the pony. He was talking to her all along.
I was soooooo chawed! I laughed and told the man that I thought he was talking to me and he laughed pretty hard. I told him that I thought if was strange that he was asking me to ride. I told him I would kill the ponies if I sat on them.

word of warning from experience...be careful with the wreath...i had one that looked VERY similar on my door and a bird happened to make a nest in the wreath...well i opened my door and it startled the bird so it flew in my house and it took foreverrrrr to get the thing out and clean up after chasing it...being the bird phobic you are i had to let you know just in case :) good luck at blockbuster!

Seriously, my sister also has a wreath like that. For the last 3 years a bird has laid eggs in it. The momma flies off when she opens the door. It is really cute. But if you don't like birds....just sayin. Love the realness of your blog.

I laughed for a long time about your bird story and agree you should move the wreath if you do not want a bird in your home because it COULD happen and there you'd be with a bird in your own home. The cat would for sure go psycho and you'd really be in a bind! (Even though it would make for a good story from you...just saying!)

I tell you, that comment about killing the pony if you sat on it caused me to gasp.out.loud! You don't even look big as minute to be saying those things about yourself!

Bless your heart..thank you for always sharing your funnies!

Hahahaha! Laurie, I love your stories and your sense of humor in general. The thought of you turning down the pony ride is hilarious.

Love that the girls picked out your cake. :-)

Laurie!!!! I thought of you this morning when I shut my door and discovered that a BIRD was building a nest in the wreath!!!! I, like you, am TERRIFIED of birds...I totally freak out with them. I would rather die than confront a bird. Anyways, I shut my door this morning and wood and pinestraw fell out of the wreath. I looked behind this huge mossy butterfly I had in it and there was a NEST. I quickly ran to my car and hyperventalated on the way to work contemplating how I would get in the house after work. We live in a townhouse and only have one door so it was either the doors or windows. I stressed about the nest all morning, telling all my coworkers, posting it on facebook and getting made fun of. :) My husband removed the wreath from the door and now it is in the middle of the yard. I need to move it back under the porch so it doesn't get rained on but am too scared to. Anyways, I am SO glad that I am not the only one afraid of birds!!!!

Yep, be on the lookout for birds building in that pretty wreath! They build in my wreath or flower bucket every year!

Tonight in Yogurt Mountain I was talking to my friend who was standing behind a man and he thought I was talking to him when I asked if she saw the little nine-day-old baby in the baby sling. He nodded his head and said, "Yes! I did see him!" Then realized I was talking to my friend! HA!!! I thought about the pony story and just ignored the embarrassment I perceived him having! :-) Thanks for sharing your funnies!!!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
