Where I Want to go!

I have a dream vacation.  This magazine page shows my dream.  I invision being carried down through a Lousiana swamp.  Touring old plantations and eating Cajun food for every meal.

Maybe I want my boat a little bigger and a little higher.  I want to return home with all limbs.

Have you ever done this?

Do you have any reccomendations?

This place looks pretty promising.

Good eats!

Thank you Southern Living for the ideas!

Yes! You should definitely do this! We did a short trip recently, and it was so much fun and very affordable. We did Lafayette, Breaux Bridge, St. Martinville, etc. You can also find good French Quarter hotel specials in the fall when the weather gets a little cooler if you want to add New Orleans on to your trip for a night or two. I've never done an airboat swamp tour, but I've heard they are fun. We did a pontoon swamp tour, and it was a lot of fun...a litte more laid back and our tour guide told Boudreaux & Thibodeaux jokes. High recommend a Cajun vacation! Just wait until it gets a little cooler.

I want to go too! That sounds like so much fun! {minus the losing a limb to a swamp gator!}

I grew up in Louisiana spending time doing those things and enjoying the food. It's such a fun time! Just lose a few pounds before hand to account for the pounds you will gain eating Louisiana food!

This sounds like a lot of fun! I will add it to my list of "Things To Do When My Husband and I FINALLY Get Down South From Canada." And yes, the list actually IS longer than the title is :)

Laurie~I was trying to figure out who Sara was, then I looked on your blog & knew it instantly! I have no idea how you found my blog, but Sara was one of my sweetest students when I taught high school. She and I read many of the same blogs, so I looked at your last post and knew right away it was her! Such a small, fun world! Yes, taking a trip to Louisiana is so much fun and make sure you stop over in New Orleans! We go often since it's a short day-trip and we just adore the city! It is a GREAT girls trip, too (they have LOTS of Teddy Bear Tea Parties all over town at Christmas & we just don't miss those~such sweet memories for my kiddos)!
Have fun on your anniversary trip :)
Looks like a fun, promising trip to me!

Hi Laurie! I'm a Louisiana girl right here! Here's my suggestions, from East to West Louisiana: New Orleans, Abita Springs, Cafe Des Amis in Breaux Bridge, Giant Omelette Festival in Abbeville (Nov. 3 and 4 would be a great time of year to visit and the giant omelette is really something to see!) Lafayette then Lake Charles. There's no doubt many airboat tours between New Orleans and Lake Charles! I live in Lake Charles and we have a wonderful Tourist Bureau, I'd be happy to send you some brochures! If interested you can email me: kaela at mix your media dot com!

I lived in Louisiana for about 10 years. My favorite place (especially for families) is Lafayette. They have the BEST food! I also lived in New Orleans. If you go there you must see the Garden District!

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
