The End of April

The last day of April........seems hard to believe.  A friend asked me this weekend how turning forty had been and I told her it had been "just fine."  I have been happy and feel like I am around 32.

Sorry for being soooo BORING lately.  Nothing exciting has really happened and nothing funny.  I am not complaining, it is just the truth.  It is not a bad thing. I think I have writers block.

I have just been busy eating Chick-Fil-A's chocolate chunk cookies.  They are incredible!!!!  I love their ice cream too!  But, I only like it when it is yellow.  I got the nerve a few weeks ago to ask the manager why it is white some days and yellow other days.  She began apologizing for the yellow ice cream.  I told her that is how I LOVE it!  She said that it is a mistake on the machine's part when it is yellow.  I told her to call me on days that the machine messes up and I will eat their yellow/icey ice cream.  I think she thought I was nuts.

I am glad that our life is slowing down a little.  The girls have finished AWANA and Children's choir is done for the year!!!!  I don't like being busy!

I have half-way finished the mantel head board.  I want to distress it more.  I got these topiary trees today, but need to put something in between them.  I have found a sign lady and I love her stuff.  I am going to have her make me a sign like my "guest cottage" one.

Yay for slower paced days! There is only 8 days of school left here and then our lives will slow down a bit. I can't wait!
I am laughing at you and that yellow ice cream.
I'm glad I could introduce you to heaven in a cookie.

I think I want that mantel back.

just kidding

Laurie! This is the first time I've ever commented but I love reading your blog. You are so funny! I wanted to ask you about the ice cream situation. My husband and I were in AR about a month ago for a funeral (we live in KY) and we got an ice cream cone at Chick Fil A. We noticed that it was different - it was exactly as you described it - yellow with a more icy consistency. I loved it!! The next time I got ice cream at a different Chick Fil A (in Nashville on the way home) it was the regular white, creamy version. We asked them in Nashville if they knew why theirs was white and creamy and the one in AR was yellow and icy. Of course they looked at us funny. We even have a friend who works at a CFA here in Louisville and he's never seen it any other way than white and creamy. When I read your post I about died! It finally solved the riddle of the yellow ice cream! However, now my husband claims he doesn't think it could be a machine malfunction because the cones we got in AR were hollow in the middle. Does that make sense? He says surely the CFA workers wouldn't put the ice cream on the cone in a way that makes it hollow in the middle. Weird, I know. When you get the yellow ice cream is it hollow in the middle, too? I know, I have just written way too much about yellow ice cream...but it's been driving me bananas!!!

You crack me up!
I saw the cookies @ Chick Fil A yesterday, but I was very afraid because I might go there several times a day :)

Kelly introduced me to the CFA cookie while I was there this past week-end. I bought 6 cookies right out of the oven before I went to the airport to pick up Steve. We are still eating on them. Just pop them in the microwave for 15 seconds and they are like coming out of the oven again!

I'm ruined!! Glad I don't have a CFA near me!
I remember the fireplace headboard when you and Kelly lived together. Neighbor's Mill in Harrison has a mantel over the sink area in the lady's restroom and it is distressed and so neat!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
