The New Spectacles

Well, Emily and I made a little trip to Claire's today so she could pick out some glasses. She had never been in Claire's and there was lots of very dramatic gasping coming from the child. It was really funny. It was as if she had never been out before. She had a wonderful time. She picked at least 20 items that she said she wanted for Christmas.....she is thinking ahead.
I actually think she likes the glasses holder better than the glasses. We shall see how long these glasses last. I think the new may wear off very quickly!
I began wearing glasses right when I turned four. My mother said I never tried to take them off and I never complained about them. Children at school often asked me if I had to sleep in my glasses. Funny!

Hehe! This is too cute. When I was in first grade I kept telling my parents that I couldn't see the chalkboard and needed glasses. They didn't believe me because my best friend had just gotten glasses. Well, they finally did take me to the eye doctor and I ended up needing glasses! I started wearing contacts in 6th grade because my glasses were so thick. I always kid with them that if they had taken me to the doctor when I told them too that I wouldn't have been so blind. Haha!

thats funny! i started wearing glasses at 12 and looked like the biggest nerd! but again that was the 90's and my glasses were almost bigger than my face!!

i wear contacts now, and only glasses when i'm sick or on the weekend when i'm napping. i wish i had perfect eyesight!
This makes me laugh! Emily is truly such a doll!

You know she loves to wear Pop's glasses. She might stick with it for awhile. She does look cute in them.

You should have asked Kelly if she still has the Lucy glasses that she wore forever. Those would have made a fashion statement for sure! I love Emily stories. I made the roast today...YUMMY! We had a family over for dinner and it made me look like I actually know how to cook.
I think she looks like you as a little girl!

I dont' typically comment, but she looks darling in the glasses. Love them!!
Has Emily ever read ''Fancy Nancy's Spectacular Spectacles''? My daughter loves that book, I got it at Target, but the story is the same as Emily's glasses story, it's a cute book! Emily looks so smart in her new glasses :)

How sweet! My daughter started saying she couldn't see around that age and she was also a tad farsighted but didn't need correction. She started up again last year and I didn't believe her, but that time she did need glasses. You never know! Emily looks so sweet with her new glasses! Just wait until she wants to wear them everywhere!

Awww ..the glasses look great on Emily! I was the same age when I started wearing glasses (am 47 and still wearin' them!).
I recently saw a pic of myself when I was 8 and oh Lordy, were those frames geeky looking!! LOL! They didn't have a big selection way back when! If I recall, I think I liked my glass case better than my frames!
She is precious!!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
