Frogmore Stew

Frogmore Stew. I know that is not a very appetizing name for a recipe, but I did not come up with the name.
You may make Frogmore Stew at your house every week. This recipe may be old news to many of you, but I want to share a dish that Steve and I have often at our house.

I found this recipe in Southern Living magazine about 12 years ago and I fell in love with it.

1 lb raw shrimp
1 small bag of small red potatoes
6 small ears of corn
2 links of smoked sausage, sliced
Old Bay seasoning

Boil the potatoes until tender. Add sausage and corn. Lastly, add the raw shrimp. Then add as much Old Bay as you want. I put a lot. It give it such a wonderful flavor! Steve likes me to add butter, but I usually don't.

Here is another favorite treat of mine. Don't make fun till you try it! I LOVE to microwave my M and M's. I pour a small bag on a plate or in a bowl and microwave them for 3o seconds. They are soooooooo delicious. The candy shell pops in your mouth and that melted chocolate flows out. Ummm..uummmmm good.

Laurie, I really like reading your blog. I found your it through Kelly's and have been reading for a while now. In Mississippi we call it a shrimp boil! We also add mushrooms and onions! I will have to try my M&M's like that.

We call it low country boil as well and it's awesome. Thank you for the roast recipe. I have made it and I, too, want to get in the pot with it, lol. It is now lovingly referred to at my workplace as THE roast, lol. So many have tried it and loved it. Thanks from a Gamecock girl in SC!!!

i'm a huge fan of frogmore stew. we always have it one night at the beach in the summer. a lot of my friends call it "low country boil" but i'm glad to find someone else that calls it frogmore stew. :)

love the m&m's in the microwave.....i also love mine with freshly popped popcorn. you pour some in the popcorn bowl and get the same "melted" effect, but with just the right addition of a little salt :)

Hm... since I trusted you on the roast, I think I'll have to try this stew... HOWEVER, do you think you could come up with a name for your roast? I've shared it with many who also love it but I don't want to take any credit. So far I've titled it "Laurie's Aunt's Pot Roast" ... and then when I have to explain who Laurie is, and that I don't actually "know" her... it's very funny! Any good names for the roast? :)

How long do you cook after adding the corn and sausage, and then again after adding the shrimp? This sounds wonderful!

We call that a Low Country Boil and it's a favorite at our house during summertime. Mmm!
I'm a lurker over on Kelly's blog and I love to stop by yours too sometimes! We LOVE Frogmore Stew! My husband likes to eat it in his t-shirt from Frogmore, SC near where we frequently vacation! As for those M&Ms - I'll have to try that one!

Laurie - I melt my M&M's in the microwave too! I like them so much better that way because you have the hard shell & then SURPRISE - liquid chocolate.

I will definitely try that with my M&Ms! They are my favorite candy. We also call the stew: Low Country Boil-it is great!!! We LOVED the roast and will never make a different one again. I am making it tomorrow, actually! Thanks for amazing recipes as well as a really cute and funny blog- I love it!

When you are out shopping on a sunny day, put your m&m's on the dash and when you get in your car they will be just right!!! Try this!! I also microwave the small pastel color Cadbury egggs. They are good too.

Laurie I will have to try this recipe - - sounds like something my husband would really love. As for the M&M's...all I can say is that I am glad I don't have a microwave or I might be in some serious trouble!

OH girl, I love me some frogmore stew! We had it for New Years Eve and it seems like only on other special occasions, but I'm not sure why I don't cook it more. That needs to change!
hm, never heard it called frogmore stew. we call it Low Country Boil around here! Either way, it's GOOD.

I just read an Amish novel where they made frogmore stew but they would literally dump it in the middle of the table and eat it with their fingers!

I live in Amish country and I have never heard of that around here, but we do have some awesome haystack dinners. I did try your roast and love it, especially heated up the next day and eaten in dinner rolls!!

I have never heard of or tasted Frogmore Stew but as of last night I have. It was really good. I told my husband that it would be good for when we boil crawfish.

Never thought of doing M&Ms that way...we've put them into a bag of freshly popped popcorn and the heat has the same effect, and the sweet/salty combo is delicious!

We always take m&m's to the movies and pour them in the warm popcorn. You get the sweet and salty and those warm m&m's are divine when they pop in your mouth!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
