Clothes That May Kill Us

See this shirt. I call it the monkey shirt. This monkey shirt might be the death of me. Sarah Kate has gone bananas over this shirt. She wants to wear it every day! It has caused much screaming and crying in this house. I got these shirts for both girls in September. I don't know what happened, but on New Year's day, Sarah Kate decided it was the only article of clothing she could wear. I can't and I don't let her wear it everyday and it has caused us to be late to every place we go because Sarah Kate is having fits over wanting to wear the monkey shirt. I am about ready to throw both shirts in the trash. ha!
Happy as a lark! Pink gum in her mouth and wearing the monkey shirt!
These robes may be the death of Steve. About four years ago his mom gave me this pink robe. I LOVE IT! I wear it night and day, Summer and Winter. Steve has always hated it!!!!! He says that it reminds him of an old woman smoking a cigarette. This robe makes him cringe. His robe nightmare got even worse on Emily's birthday. My mom gave Emily a robe that matches mine. Now Steve gets a double dose of it! Bless his heart. Emily loves hers as much as I love mine.

There is nothing "old Lady" about your robe; it's pretty and pink ...so cute! and Emily's looks SO soft! I would wear my robe daily, too ;) lol

Laurie, you always make me laugh! I have a fondness for vintage housecoats, and I can just see my husband cringe every time I'm wearing one. He doesn't say anything, but I know he is dying to. I bet he would burn them all if he thought he could get away with it! As for the monkey shirt...I think all kids go through that. My boys mostly want to be in a costume, no matter where we are going, which produces the same tears, tantrums, and arriving late :)

Buy 2 more monkey shirts and let her wear them as undershirts. ;) She'll grow out of it eventually, and if you have several they will at least be clean. :)

The robe is awesome.

My daughter had a favorite shirt also. It was a hand me down and not as cute as the monkey shirt. Maybe you could try putting the shirt on her favorite doll and tell her how much her dolly wants her to share her shirt. Or use it as a pillow cover over her pillow so she could sleep with it. Not sure either will work but it might be worth a try. I let my daughter wear her shirt whenever she wanted as long as we weren't going anywhere. She EVENTUALLY out grew it!

Ha! I can visualize Steve's mental image but it looks nothing like your robe. :)

Love those robes. Men never like our comfy clothes...why is that? I guess it goes both ways. Not sure we always like there selection of clothing any more than they do ours. You and your girls always make me smile. :o)

My girl has clothes like that ~ don't you just cringe @ the meltdowns? She's 3 1/2 - will they grow out of it, or is it a girl thing? My son didn't do this!

Laurie!!! I have a super soft robe I wear in the winter, and Jason hates it! He says it's my grandma robe. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loves her robe. ; )

Love your pink one.

just hopped on over from Kelly's blog and read your post. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about with the melt downs over clothes and shirts. My BOYS do that too at 5 and 4. Maybe this spring you can buy her a couple of different monkey shirts so she can have monkeys on every day. And your robes look very warm and fuzzy! Blessings,

Hi! I jumped over here from Kelly's blog! I too very much understand the clothing dilema! My boys are that way but it's usually with a picking out their shirt. Maybe buy her 2 or 3 more monkey shirts that way she can wear monkeys each day. I too love your fuzzy robes! Stay warm! Blessings,

The robe thing is so funny. Pink is a great color.

My daughter is the same on all things Minnie Mouse. We found a new Minnie Mouse shirt at Target weeks ago. She started to change her shirt in the store. Or at least try to.

At least Sarah Kate looks super cute in that shirt! My middle son has an opinion on everything he wears so I feel you with the battles that can cause. =)

Oh, the shirt is cute, and it's harmless to let her wear it every day! Just wash it at night with your other laundry!

I'm a kindergarten teacher and I have a little boy in my class that wears the same Alabama football jersey everyday! He wore out one so he got a new one for Christmas. His Mom said she just washes it every night. It's so funny how they get attached to things like that!

Why is my child obsessed with the ugliesst article of clothing that she owns? That is my thought about my daughter! My m-i-l bought her a southern belle dress around halloween time and she wears it EVERY DAY! I mean, I have to bribe her to take it off in order to go out! It is not the kind of thing you wear out in public!
Melody said…
I didn't mean to spell ugliest, wrong. I do teach English and I CAN spell, lol.

You both look so warm and cozy in your robes I don't blame you for wearing them all the time. I am sure my husband hates what I wear around the house but I say if it is comfy and you are not going anywhere why not?

B has to have a shirt with some type of land rover, construction vehicle, etc. on it. I never had an issue with the girls!

I am cracking up reading your stories about SK's monkey shirt and your robe!!! First of all, I know what battle you are fighting! Cilla would LIVE in her "jammies" if we would let her! But, of course she has to put clothes on. So, she throws a fit every day when we dress her! I have a robe like your's that Flint hates, too! He says it reminds him of his mom! But, a girl has to have a warm, comfy robe, right?!?!

Laurie...I just made a vow to my self that I CANNOT read your blog while I'm sitting in class waiting for students to finish their work. I keep laughing out loud & I know they must be wondering what in the world I'm laughing at!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
