The Kitchen Table




THANK YOU THANK YOU for helping me with the kitchen table decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved reading all the comments.

I have found sort of a compromise. I love it, but I don't want to mess up!
I found this table ( in the pictures) that is wood on top that nearly matches our woodwork in the kitchen.
It comes with 4 ivory chairs and one bench. (6 people)
The wood color will keep the table from looking too washed out. It is VERY kid friendly with the table top finish.
THOUGHTS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE red furniture, but I don't want my kitchen table to be red. I would love it in someone else house, but I just think I would get tired of it. I am also not willing to change my curtains.

Solid ivory would be too much blah. Plus the Paula Deen is too massive. It just would NOT work.

I also do NOT want to do fabric seat.

The glass on top sounds like trouble.

SO.......it is either black or what you see in the pictures.

Laurie, I love this! We have a farm table with Benches and our kids love them! I really like the finish of the table you posted.

I love what's in the picture. I had an ivory table, thought I was tired of it, so went to dark. Hated the dark! Showed every little knick, scratched easily, the chairs were awful after about 6 months. I'd give anything to have my ivory table back. Love the wood top on the picture, and the distressed legs!

I love the bench idea! I've always thought those looked so good and inviting in kitchens. I agree, the glass doesn't sound like a good idea. I think you can't go wrong on the finish you choose. But I'll admit, with the stuff I can see hanging on your wall, I think the black would look really great. I realize that I'm in the minority :)

Yay! I'm gonna link down below to the bench we have. I think your girls will LOVE it. Our two have had so much fun doing projects at the table on the bench, eating, or just hanging out with us in the kitchen. I love your choice!!!

I love the table in the picture! A bench is a great alternative to just having all chairs and I think your girls are old enough to sit on one safely and they'd probably think it's fun, too. I love reading your blog. :)

I also say definitely that one. You are smart not to do glass....ask me how I know. I don't know how Kelly can stand having to clean hers with a little one ~ soon to be 2 eating at the table. You could always paint it black in the future.

I LOVE it!! We have a similar table and chairs in our dining room, but now I want this bench! I think having the wood table top adds a little something and doesn't look as blah as a solid ivory table. Our table finish is called "buttermilk".

I never commented on your table question the other day, but a bench came to mind. I think this is a lovely choice - it won't be swallowed up into the beadboard and it's still distinctive but similar to the rest of your space. As long as the quality (and comfort of the chairs) is comparative to the price, it appears you have a winner!

I love the table! I like the contrast of a dark top and lighter legs. Plus, I think the table just looks like something you would like...it looks like you.
As for the ivory chairs, I like those too. Its a nice mix between the wood and the paint color in your diningn room! Good choices!!

I have this table (if it's from Pier 1) and I was so disappointed that the top of it has bubbles from water or other misc. wetness. I could take pics to show you if you'd like! But if the one you're looking at is not from Pier 1, then I guess it won't be the same one and won't matter! I was just super bummed that I spent that and it's not holding up!

laurie, love your kitchen! my walls are a light gold, curtains (valances) a red toile ..... lots of beadboard like you have. white kitchen also ..... had my oak table re-done in a 'buttermilk' distressed finish. lived with that a few years. now it's oak on top, and had the pedestal plus the chairs re-done in distressed black and it looks GREAT. should also tell you that the table is next to white plantation shutters but it all works! let me know if you'd like to see a picture!

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
