Updates

I returned my Euro shams to our local Pottery Barn. One of you told me I could do that to save on the shipping fee. THANK YOU!!!! I am so into tracking my order again!!!! I can't wait till the UPS man pulls up!
Some of you suggested that I keep the Euro shames and get some standards also. I LOVE the idea. I know it would look so good, but I am too tight and too lazy to put all those pillows on the bed every morning. We already have pillow overload, because I have to have a pillow under my head and one on each side to sleep.

Also, thank you for sharing your favorite songs! I loved reading them and listening to them. Some of the ones you named I LOVE also......Need to Breathe, Natalie Grant and Dave Barnes. You can't go wrong with them.

We are constantly reminding Sarah Kate to walk flat on her feet. Her response...." I just trying to be tall." She IS tall, she is in the 90th percentile in height.

I was thinking about something a bit interesting this past weekend. You know how you go through something hard or trying and then just a few years later, you can't remember how it all ended or many details?
We are having a hard time getting SK to go #2 on the potty. When I say a hard time, I mean a hard time. It is about to do me in. I was talking to a friend who had the exact same ordeal with her son about three years ago. I remember talking to her at the time and she was sooooo stressed out and upset about it all. This weekend she said that she could not even remember what made him start using the potty or exactly how old he was. Then we talked about things that at the time seem sooo BIG and then just a little time later we don't even remember.
I think that is a pretty comforting thought.

Oh that's so comforting to me as we're going through a really tough time with our 11 month old. Seriously feels like we've hit the terrible twos way early.

I'm soo glad that you said what you said about potty training! I have been having a horrible time getting my littlest one trained. I can hardly remember going through it with his older brother and I have just been feeling soo silly that I can't figure it out the 2nd time around!

Laurie, I have never commented but this topic is fresh in my mind. My granddaughter was just trained and she had the same trouble, not wanting to poop on the potty. My daughter went to the dollar aisle in Target and bought several small gifts, wrapped them in bright gift wrapping and put them in a bag in the bathroom. Each time Mikayla would poop on the potty she got to open a gift. This worked like a champ. Good luck!

One of my closest friends just had the same problem with her little girl. She kept telling her Mama that when she was 4 and she was a big girl she would go #2 on the potty. 4 came and went. Toys were offered, movies, candy, everything. The little girl would say it hurt if she didn't have a diaper. They tried letting her wear a diaper but sit on the toilet. Nothing worked.

Her mom didn't want it to be a negative thing, but eventually she ended up staying home and telling her that they weren't going ANYWHERE until she went #2 in the potty. They canceled birthday parties, kept her out of preschool and dance, kept her nude since she would go in her panties. It took 3 days of her holding it until it worked.

Good luck, all kids are different. My oldest potty trained herself pretty much, and my youngest who is almost 2 1/2 isn't showing any signs of being ready.

I just commented about walking on toes and now we another thing in common. My daughter has been potty trained for about three months now and has never pooped on the potty. In fact, in the last two weeks she has started holding it. It's driving me crazy. Of course the longer they hold it the bigger and harder it gets....sigh. I am trying not to be negative about and have bribed her with everything. Nothing works! In doing a little research, I have found this is very common. I just hope it ends soon. Also, she won't go potty at all in public. I did get her to at least sit on a toilet one day but she told me she couldn't go. We are trying to plan a trip out of town in a couple of weeks, but I think we are going to have to cancel. Silly kids!

We finally quit with my son and then gave him a trike to pedal- he began asking to go. I totally understand the stress! :)

Hey Laurie! I have always said that the hardest stage is the one that you are in. When they are infants, that is hardest. If you are in potty training, that is hardest. And on and on. Funny though that I saw this article after reading your blog and I immediately thought of you. Can you do that when you don't really even "know" someone? :) But here is the link. I hope you glean some encouargement from it.

We had the same potty issue with my son when we were potty training!! What finally worked...we took him to toys r us and let him pick anything he wanted (within reason). We bought the item of his choice, brought it home and put it up on the mantle. We told him it was his reward for going on the potty. He wanted it so bad that he went that day!! We used that trick for about a week... a bit more costly than the M&M trick BUT less expensive than diapers and pull ups in the long run!! :)

We had issues with #2 as well. I can message you sometime with what's worked for us...we're starting to make a turn for the better. :)

I trained 4 children and the youngest took the longest and was the hardest to get going. So much for experience.
My grandson would not poop on the potty. After much bribing and discussing with the peditrician he suggested a tiny bit of miralax to soften. It worked great.

It is very encouraging to point out that things that seem HUGE or near-impossible now will be all but forgotten in the coming years. Very encouraging. Thanks.

Girl - I feel your pain. Kenlee requested a pull up every time she had to poop for almost 9 months! I would tell her if she was old enough to tell me she had to poop, she was old enough to go in the pot! HA! Then one day it just clicked. Thank the good Lord above for potty training! My Mom always said it was "separation anxiety" from something leaving her body!
My son did the SAME thing with #2. We seriously bribed him with the world! Nothing was good enough to make him want to go in the potty. Finally we quit talking about it and quit pushing the issue. A few weeks later he had to go before he got in the bath and he said to his dad, "why don't I go in the potty?" He did it then and has ever since. It just had to be his idea.
I love to read your blog but sadly never comment but oh this subject just took me back 2 years...my son was terrified to go #2 he would cry and beg for a pull up...he was always constipated....one weekend he had a stomach bug that caused diarrhea so he had to sit on the toilet all day...after that he was never scared again.... I agree with another commented the season we are in is always the hardest....love and patience, she'll one day go in the potty... Oh and my second son is 2 and he potty trained in one day and enjoys going number 2 hahaha they are all wonderfully blessed with a unique personality :)
Oops signed in under my daughters account!

I understand about the potty thing. I've potty trained 3 out of 4 of mine so far and they are all different, but I've noticed they all did it THEIR way in THEIR own timing...and they all eventually pooped and peed in the potty!! :)

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
