This Little Light of Mine

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also the Greek. Romans 1:16

In mid July, Emily asked Jesus into her heart in the car as we were driving home from a friend's house. She is only five years old. We KNOW that she does not understand everything about salvation, but we know that this a BIG step toward God for her. We have been talking to her about it and are planning to speak with one of our pastors very soon.
Jesus, Heaven and Hell are on her mind a lot. She has LOTS and LOTS of questions.

Fast forward to last week at school.

She got in the car and said, "MOM, a boy at my table said, butt!" You would have thought this were the worst word in the world. Her eyes were big as saucers as she told me. "He cussed,"

I just said, "hummmm, well............"

Emily said, " I told him that was a cuss word and that he would go to hell." The boy told her that his mama told him that he can say butt and that SHE (Emily) had said a cuss word: hell.

Then Emily said, "Mom I didn't know what to say, so I pointed down and told him that he would be going down there with the devil."

She then told him that he could go to heaven. "I told him that he needed to ask Jesus in his heart and he would go to heaven when he dies."

I asked her what the boy said. She replied, "he said that he did not know that." I told him to just ask Jesus in."

I can't tell you how proud I was of Emily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was beaming.
Now.......was her theology correct? NO! Does cussing send you to hell? NO!! Was her scare tactic the correct approach? Probably not!

But she loves Jesus in the way that a little five year old girl can. Child like faith!

I pray that she will never stop telling others about Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so thankful for her boldness.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Laurie that's great! You're so right...tactics may be a little off, but theology is RIGHT on! And, let's face it...even adults can have the wrong tactics sometimes!

I was raised to know that Jesus was real and that there was a heaven and hell. At 13, I got saved. Don't get me wrong, I have fell out of church BUT I'm still a God Fearing woman. I still know that he is very real and that he saves our souls if we ask. I think that stays with you your whole life. I think it's awesome that at such an early age she knows and loves Jesus. That just shows what a fantastic job you are doing as parent.

Laurie,

I learned a long time ago, that when a child is ready to accept Christ, do not stop them. They may not have all the i's dotted and t's crossed, but they know they love the Lord and want to share. Emily is ready. The rest will come. What a joyous occasion. You and Steve are Godly examples of Christian parents.

Give her hugs from Ill.

There is no greater joy to a mother than to know her children love Jesus. It's so precious that not only does she loves Jesus herself, but she's also showing her concern for others. Can you imagine how it would have been to have overheard that conversation yourself??

I loved reading this!! I'm proud of her too! :)

Alex tells a story about when he was little and locked his younger cousin in the closet until he agreed to accept Jesus as his Saviour. LOL Makes me laugh every time I think about it.

You should be proud, Mama!

Just now reading this....I think child-like faith is the purest form of faith there is. Before the "world" really has a chance to worm it's way in. Such sweet, simple faith. Just believing. I'm so proud of Emily. She's a smart girl and although she doesnt understand it all she obviously knows the most important part. Love that little (big-growing up too fast) girl!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
