Family Funnies

Yesterday afternoon I found Emily in the middle of our bed with her Barbie phone and computer. I asked her what she was doing and she said, " I taking pictures of cute kitties on animal planet and downloading them on my puter, but it is not working!"
Where she got this, I have NO IDEA. Steve never takes pictures and my phone does not even have the ability to take pictures. I did not even know she knew the word download.

I made Emily a jelly sandwich for lunch yesterday and Sarah Kate was saying, "mom, I don't like samaliches." That is what she calls a sandwich-"samalich"

I used a gift card from Christmas this weekend to buy a Spring shirt. I showed Steve when I got him and he told me that he really liked the shirt. I think he genuinely did, but then he added,"it reminds me of what the girls wore on Hee-Haw." Then he explained how that was a good thing, the girls on Hee-Haw were pretty. I feel like when I wear this that I need to pop up from a corn field and tell a joke.
My parents came to visit this week and we had a great time together. We are looking forward to Steve's parents coming this week.

A blog reader asked me where I got the necklace I was wearing at Hollis' birth.....I got it at Francesca's. I don't get stuck in their jewelry, just their clothes. I am sticking with the jewelry only.

Oh my, Todd loves the show Hee Haw. Seriously. His mom used to have it on all the time when we would go visit. The girls were pretty on there so that's a good thing.

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday. So Kristen thinks she has new toys especially for her and Emily is content playing with the remote, magazines, cords and...
