A Finger Report

Well............believe it or not, my mother in law got the terrible stomach virus Tuesday night. I lost my wonderful help! She is better this morning. Emily has a pretty painful ear infection and SK came down with something yesterday. She has runny nose, congestion and the runs. OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am VERY encouraged that I don't have too much fever in my finger. It seemed to have gotten better around 8:00 last night. It is still purple. Hummm??? I didn't have fever either when I woke up this morning. I slept great, thanks to prayers and Tylenol P.M.
I am so overwhelmed with all the encouragement you all have given me this week. I read all the comments last night and I felt so much better about everything. What a blessing you have been to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was also a blessing to me that two of my favorite church members came to visit me, Kelly and Susan!!!!!!!! Made my day!
I will be looking into to those vitamin C and D pills and Bactroban and some of the others you told me about. It is good to know I am not alone in this.

I have thought so much this week about those people who live daily with cancer and disease and pain. Nothing is normal to them anymore. Their routines are gone and all that. This is just a little storm we are going through right now. I know that we will all get better soon and there are those people who can't say that.

I see the hand surgeon after lunch today. Pray for his wisdom in what to do for me and pray that I will not be nervous.

Oh goodness, so sorry your mother-in-law is ill. Poor thing. You continue to be in my prayers and also praying for wisdom for your surgeon and hoping surgery isn't necessary. He's with you through it all, though!

You have definitely had your share of "things" to deal with lately. Praying for a healthy household!!

I'm a reader of Kelly's blog, and I always thought that YOU must be very, very special to rate the status of "Kelly's best friend." =) You are both so sweet, and positive, and faithful. Thanks for sharing yourselves with everyone!

Just checking in to see how your finger is ~ I've been praying for you! Was this something caused by the root canal, or did you cut your finger? I'm hoping everyone is on the mend in your household ~ special prayers for your appointment today! =] L.

Hi Laurie,
I'm not one to comment much--but just think you and Kelly have the sweetest blogs.

I'm so glad you updated because even though I don't know you in real life, I've been thinking of you and praying for you!! I got a MRSA abscess in my spine from my epidural with my last baby (EXTREMELY rare) and had emergency surgery when she was 2 days old to drain it, then 3 weeks of IV antibiotics. It was so scary but it all worked out. I know how really scary it is to have these things come up right out of the blue (especially with little ones that need us!) and I'm so sorry this has happened. I'll continue to pray for your healing and I'm relieved it sounds that things are moving in the right direction.

Take care,
Kathy
Hope all goes well with your appt today. Get well soon!

I've recently done a lot of personal research on vitamin D, so I wanted to share what I've learned in order to save you some trouble (I'm also a medical professional).

You can get a blood test done to check your vit. D levels--just ask your doc. It's called "25(OH)D", also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D,and is available through LabCorp. It is the most accurate test. Based on this test your vitamin D level should never be below 32 ng/ml, and any levels below 20 ng/ml are considered serious deficiency states, increasing your risk of as many as 16 different cancers and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis, just to name a few.

The OPTIMAL value that you’re looking for is 50-65 ng/ml.

Based on the most recent research, the current recommendation is 35 IU’s of vitamin D per pound of body weight (much higher than 1,000IUs per day!)

The best source of Vitamin D is cod liver oil. Sounds nasty, but even my kids take it without complaint. If you don't want to do that, then be sure to get vitamin D3 (natural) and NOT vitamin D2 (synthetic). Let me know if you have any questions!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
