Animals Galore

On Friday, I went with Beth and Baylor to the Wild Wilderness Drive Through Safari in Gentry, Ar. We had such a fabulous time! We saw every kind of animal you can think of. What do you think Emily's favorite exhibit was???????????????? These two kittens.
Yes. She ran up to them calling out," ohhh Sweeties" "Darling" "Little Friends." This was the highlight for my girl!
She also LOVED riding this pony!

It is so interesting to watch a chimpanzee. We stood right here for about 30 minutes.
Look at the beautiful 3 month old lion cub. Beth put her fingers in it's mouth. Beth was very impressed with herself and kept saying," I have my hand in a lions mouth." It is pretty cool to think about that little cub will be about 500 lbs in a year. Emily went in the cage with him. I had lots of reservation about Emily petting this lion, but then I thought, our own cat is of more harm than this lion cub.
A baboon in a diaper and sucking a bottle. I loved it!
Emily asked me if I thought this monkey was thinking. Yes it was.......thinking about jumping in Sarah Kate's lap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, this baboon baby jumped in Sarah Kate's lap.
I took this picture the second it jumped out of her lap. I was trying to capture her expression. She did not make a peep. She was STUNNED!!!!!!! Notice the mud on her leg that the baboon left.

We all got to pet this Lemur.

Sarah Kate spent the day pointing at animals saying, "look!"
I'll let you in on a little Laurie fact. I think people look like animals. And vice- versa. This has gotten me into a lot of trouble through the years. In college, I told one of my best friends mom that she looked like a donkey. As soon as it came out of my mouth I turned about 5 shades of red because I was so chawed. I used to think I looked like a baboon (my nose and face protrude in the same manner), but I am thinking I look more like a cat now.

I think I do this because I am an artist and I love to draw animals and people. I just see similarities.

You know what i'm thinking when I see that Lemur and think about you in college!
Emily is you 100%. That must be why I love her so much. She is so much like you it's scary. I'm laughing about her and the kittens.
Love all the pictures!
Now I am so stressed about what animal you think I look like.

Love this post!
I can't imagine what poor SK thought when the monkey jumped on her!! I have serious reservations about going to the Gentry Zoo now. Not for Wells, but for me - I could not handle that much animal closeness!

I think that about people too, but I try not to tell them, LOL! I love that baby monkey!

Too fun! I loved all these pictures. Emily is so sweet and that SK - she is a braver little woman than I. I would not have been sitting calmly if a monkey jumped on me. Let's just say my lap is a baboon free zone.

Hope the rest of your weekend is awesome!

I had a friend at church today show me pictures of taking her grandbaby to the very same place. I saw the lion cub and the lemur too. I told her K would probably take H there in a few years!

Looks like ya'll had a great time!

omgoodness! i totally get you with relating animals to humans! i am forever guessing what animal represents people in life! for instance i have a professor who is identical to a chicken and another prof. who is amazingly similar to a giraffe! when i tried to explain this to my friends they laughed at me like i was crazy! this totally made me feel like i'm not crazy! :)

oh, that last part made me laugh so much! You're so funny.

I don't think I would have done as good as SK did when that monkey jumped on her, I would have lost it!

Hey Laurie!! Loved looking at your adventures at the safari with Beth. I can't believe she put her fingers in the lion cubs mouth!!!!

I will have to add your blog to my list, so I can keep up with you. Maybe I can also keep up with Beth through you as well :-)

Your girls are darling!! Take care!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
