Summer Weekend

This weekend, we headed to South Arkansas with Kelly and Scott and Harper. Three small children driving for hours in a car, could have been a disaster, but it was great! We had a very fun travel together. Steve helped Scott and his Dad get the deer camp ready for hunting season. Hummm.....not quite sure what that involves. But, Steve had a WONDERFUL time. Friday night, me and my parents and the girls joined them at the deer camp for steak and all the trimmings. It was a delicious meal! I love being in a setting like that. ( Summer, pine trees, pond, grilled food, sweet tea....you get the picture) I just wish I could have done some fishing.

The highlight of Emily's weekend was getting to walk the neighbor's dogs. She LOVES animals!
Harper and Sarah Kate. These were our make-shift high chairs as we ate. Sarah Kate stole all of Harper's little blankets as they were sitting side by side. I am sure SK thought they were cute!
Happy Father's Day! It was a blessing to be able to be with my Dad for Father's Day. Steve was helping SK walk in this picture. Yep, she started walking a few steps last Tuesday afternoon. She walked to Emily. She walked a little more each day. Since we have been home tonight, she has been walking up a storm.
My Mom and Kelly holding Harper. They were talking about what color Harper's hair is going to be.
We loved this fun swing at the deer camp.

Looks like you had a great time. I just know I would love your momma--she was so sweet at SK's party. I can't believe SK is walking...why can't they stay babies. Maybe we can have lunch this week or next?

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday. So Kristen thinks she has new toys especially for her and Emily is content playing with the remote, magazines, cords and...
