Vintage Dress-Up

The girls were invited to a wonderful birthday party yesterday at a place called Vintage Violets.  The girls were so happy to be there.  Sarah Kate was so so proud of her looks!  I don't think she ever stopped smiling while she was there.

Hi Laurie - Very fun party- how creative! So I have kind of a random question for you...I found your blog through Kelly's Korner and I just love both of your blogs! I live up in Minnesota and I am always so inspired with the women's ministry at your church (that I see and hear about through your blogs.) My own church is hoping to develop their women's ministry - especially to younger women. Right now it is pretty limited. They have asked me if I could help lead a Bible study, women's small group - anything:) When I have thought about what I would ideally like to see - I keep coming back to - "I would love a women's ministry like Kelly and Laurie have!" So I know that is not very possible, but I am hoping to at least capture a little of the spirit. My idea (and who knows if this will work with timing, young children, distance, etc.) would be to maybe come down sometime in the next year and attend a conference, Bible study, or other women's event at your church and see it in person and get energized and get ideas. So - all of that to ask you if you do think of events in the next year that might be on a weekend - or Thursday or Friday (those are easiest for me) that might be a good representation of women's ministry at FBC if you could e-mail me and let me know and I would try to make something work to get ideas and get inspired! I'm not sure if you can see my e-mail by this comment entry? Anyway, I would be happy to give you whatever contact info you would like. Unfortunately I don't have a blog myself, but I do love reading them! Thanks so much for any thoughts - Sonya

Hello again - I just wanted to clarify too that it doesn't need to be a huge event. If it would work out at all, we would add it on to a family trip to Silver Dollar City and my husband would just watch the children for a few hours (maybe at the cool cupcake store!). I know Kelly is always so good at saying - "hey, next weekend there is a cool event at the church, or tomorrow..." But for us with planning a Branson trip with possibly a fun tag-along for me, it would be super helpful if either you or Kelly could occasionally do a shout out and say "hey - three or four months from now, mark your calendars:)" Thanks so much and have a blessed week. I know that Kelly just wrote that it was in the 70s - wow! We still have three feet of snow on the ground, so you are an inspiration! - Sonya

Hello for one final time:) Since I don't have a blog I'm not sure if you can see the e-mails on these comments...but just in case you can't, here is my Facebook https://www.facebook.com/sonya.wilson.505 That way you can message if you happen to have the time and also check us out:) Anyway, I appreciate any thoughts. I went to the phenomenal IF Gathering with my cousin, but I am so inspired by your women's group that it would be fun to see something on a small, local scale too!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
