Dot .Mom

Last Febuary, I went with some of my best friends to the dot.mom conference in Frisco,Tx.  It was one of the very best events I have EVER been to.  I would go again in a heartbeat.  I ordered the flashdrive from the conference and I have been listening to it while the girls are at school.

I just want to share some of the things that stuck with me and I hope they will be as helpful to you as they have been to me:




Don't ask your daughter if she is dating a Christian, ask her if she is dating a Godly man.

Most of the time, it is not good to rescue your child.  When they go through very difficult situations, it makes them cling to Jesus.

Train their heart, not their behavior.

Facebook and cell phones can cause a whole lot of trouble for kids and their parents, but technology is not really the problem.  It is a heart issue.

Moving slow is not a character flaw.

For the the single girl:  The only thing worse than waiting is wishing you had of.

Help your child find an activity that they really enjoy.  When they have a bad day at school, they can think,"well, at least I have art lessons today." or gymnastics or whatever.

Show your children Jesus in everything you do.

Don't be a whimpy parent!!!!!

Kids WANT boundaries.

Those are just a few of the thought I loved!!!!

I was that single girl until I was 47.
When I would get sad and lonely about being single my dear Christian friend who was sadly divorced 3 times before she found the Lord use to tell me:

there is no lonelier place than sleeping next to the wrong man.

That use to really help me press on and wait on the Lord.

Oh how I wish I had waited! God's timing is perfect--wish I had remembered that when I was in such a hurry to be married! Be patient, single girls! :-)

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday. So Kristen thinks she has new toys especially for her and Emily is content playing with the remote, magazines, cords and...
