Thank you, Norman!

Yesterday Kelly and I went to see the Norman Rockwell exhibit at Crystal Bridges.  I LOVED IT!  Norman Rockwell is my favorite artist.  I love realistic art that tells a story.  I learned so many things about him that I did not know.
I would love to look at those pictures even if they were a photograph, but to think that they are paintings is just amazing!  Be paid attention to the details.
As an elementary art teacher, I bought a VHS Norman Rockwell documentary for my students to watch.  Our music teacher laughed and laughed and told me that the kids would be so bored and they would not pay any attention.  I thought ,  "they will love it, Norman Rockwell is the best!"  Ha!  The music teacher was so right.  It was a teacher disaster.  The kids watched for about two minutes and they were DONE!  I was new to teaching and learned my lesson.
I have loved Rockwell since I was a little girl. My mother had a Norman Rockwell Christmas book that I have worn out.  I have studied every page.
It was very exciting to see his paintings in person.

After our museum experience, we ate wonderful food at Mama Fu's.

I call that a perfect day!

I love Norman Rockwell too! My grandparents had a big book of all his work and I loved looking at it. My favorite is the self portrait!

My Mom's parent's had a Norman Rockwell painting in their living room and then it went with my Grandma to her Assisted Living, her dad did the frame for it, it's huge! I think my Uncle has it now or we do. My Mom was an art teacher as well.

There is a painting he did of a old school classroom and one of the girls in the painting is my Uncle's sister (my mom's sister's husband's sister). We also had a big book of his paintings and I loved looking through it.

Linda Dale, I have thought of you all day. Happy birthday, my little Feuella. I was telling Ross about some of our jokes and got to laughing at grocery store. He didn't laugh nearly as hard as I did, I was chawed. I am so thankful for our 10AM tea that gave me my lifelong friend. I love you...and if I were your freshman roommate, I would NEVER have ditched you. Love you, happy bday, beautiful friend!!

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
