Poor Kristen

My favorite feline is sick.  I noticed Wednesday that she was in the litter box about six times.  I don't EVER see her in the litter box, so this caught my attention quickly.  I called the vet first thing Thursday morning and they gave her a Friday morning appointment.  An hour later I noticed that she was peeing blood.  I called back and they gave her an appointment that day.  I dreaded trying to get her in the carrier and the drive to the vet.  It was just as awful as ever.  I was sweating, she was escaping.  I ended up capturing her in a pillow case and slowly lowering her in the carrier.
The Vet checked her out and found that she had blood and crystals in her urine. ( I had to take in a sample.)  You can see it was a fun day.  She was given a bag of fluids, pain meds, antibiotic and prescription wet food.  (She hates the food.)  She is continuing to go to the litter box about 10 times a day.  I never thought I would see the day that I was praying for a cat's urinary tract health.

In other news:
I am still trying to go to the gym.  I have been painting some stuff at our church and I have not gotten to  go as much as I would like.

THANKFULLY,  my girls have remained healthy during this very sick season around here.

Here is Sarah Kate's funny saying of the week:  Every time she sees an Olive Garden commercial she says,  "I'm llergic to their skitty. " She got a virus after we ate there one time and she has no desire to go back.

Poor Kristen. I don't even know how on earth to get a cat urine sample. My hats off to you for that one, Laurie!
Have a great Saturday!!

Never had to get any type of samples from our cats or dogs though. We've gotten samples from when we raised goats.

My sister got sick at Olive Garden once but that was because she didn't want to waste any food, we didn't go there for awhile but we have all been back since though!

Urinary tract infections in cats can become deadly very quick so I am thankful you got in sooner. Around Thanksgiving, our oldest cat Mia, got a horribly infected eye. Four different meds and 5 weeks later, it finally began to heal. At one point the doc thought the cornea would rupture. He would meet me at his office at 7:30 three-four mornings a week so I wouldn't be late for work...Hope Kristin gets better very soon - from Mia ^..^

I was so not an animal person until September when we were adopted by a stray cat. He is now an indoor/outdoor cat and holds my heart in his paws. And his name is Rainbow because I have two daughters that are 6 and 3!! I have found myself praying for him more times than I can count and I feel that The Lord cares for him because He created him. I hope that your sweet Kristen gets better soon.

My cat was prescribed Science Diet C/D, a dry food. He loves it! We were also told not to give him any/very many treats, because he needs to ingest the food for kidney/UT health and doesn't need to "fill up" on treats.
I do admire your ability to successfully acquire a urine specimen from a domestic pet . . .
Hope Kristen soon feels better!

Laurie,
I just wanted to let you know...my cat (who is going to be 13 in a 2 months) used to have horrible, recurring UTI's. I had to take him to the emergency vet on more than one occasion. Originally we were recommended Science Diet, but at the time I could NOT afford it. I took him to my vet and he told me that Bootsie needed a "low ash" food. And that Purina Cat Chow in the blue bag was just as good. He has been on that since then (10+ years) and has not had 1 UTI since then. Hope that helps! And I hope that Kristin gets well soon! :)
