Grandma's Brag Book

Nothing like looking through a strangers photo album is there?  I knew the grandparents would want to see these.
Speaking of grandparents.............
I have been asked twice in the past two weeks if I was the girls grandmother.
I was in the bank a couple of weeks ago and a lady asked me if Sarah Kate was my daughter  or granddaughter.  Then she asked her name.  I could not even answer her because I was so rattled and shocked.
Then I got my eye brows waxed over the weekend and the lady asked if I was the grandmother.
WOW!  I think I need to get my hair colored.  I DO have gray, but good grief.  I feel 28!

Next time I get asked that question I am going to say,  "No,  I am their Great-Grandmother!"

I "lurk" on Laurie's Life regularly to enjoy your fantastic sense of humor. You and your girls are beautiful, and I would NEVER mistake you for their grandmother! However, I do have a friend who became a grandma at 34. Thanks so much for being a blessing through your blog.

You so do NOT look like a grandma! I can't even imagine.

And thank you for sharing the photos. Your family is precious.

The things people say. Once someone asked me if my triplet grandsons were real and I said, "No. They are plastic."

When my nephew was in the NICU I sat with him quite a bit and one of the nurses asked if I was his grandmother. I was shocked! I am 36 and I am fortunate that my hair isn't turning on me...yet! I chose to believe it was because of my mature maternal nature. ;)

Haha, I get asked if when I am walking with one of my niece's if I'm their Mom and I say no just their Aunt!

One time my parent's and I were eating supper at a restaurant with my brother, my sister-in-law and their 2 kids and one of my 7 year old niece's pre-school teacher's were there and her Mom had her introduce her Granny (my Mom) to the teacher and she said this is my really old grandma even though she's not that old though, she's a little older than her Indian grandma though.

Here's my spin on that question: you must have been patient and loving with your girls - more like a grandmother is then a tired mother! Good for you! They thought you were, possibly, the grandmother based on your loving kindness to your girls! (Obviously, they never looked at you or they would have realized their mistake! You do NOT look like a grandmother.) (It takes one to know one.)

Try to remember, the comments people make reflect something in their own life and not take it personally. I live where moms tend to be very young....I am old enough to be a grandma,in my 40's, but I have school-age children...Actually, where I live by 50 some women are Great Grandmothers. Ha! I just say I was a late bloomer.

No way do you look like a grandma! Unbelievable!!
I know exactly how you feel! I have three daughters, ages 8, 3, and 2, and people ask me all the time if I am their grandmother. I am just deflated every time I am asked that question. I know that I had my kids when I was older (starting at age 30), but there is no way I look like their grandmother! I just tell people that I waited until I was older to have kids so that I would be a better, more patient, mother. Hang in there!

I am 35, my brother is 38, and my sister is 40. We had family pictures taken last year, and I have a framed picture of the 3 of us in my living room. A new friend saw the picture and asked if it was of me and my parents! My siblings did not appreciate hearing about that :)
I have been reading your blog for a few years--we have little girls the same age, and I always think that your hair, make-up, and outfits are just adorable. No way could you be taken for a grandmother!!! Still, I know how sad that can be. I have been asked if I was expecting before (when I wasn't) and I was chawed to death!!!!

hehe..sometime people don't better. Whenever I'm not sure, I always say they are the mom. So, if it's really the grandmother, she would feel flatter.

Laurie you do not look like a grandmother. It must be an Arkansas thing to ask that question:) I live in NC but came to Little Rock several times to see a surgeon when my now 13 yr old was 3-4 years old. That is the only place I have ever been asked if I was her grandmother. I was 38 at the time.

I was at CFA with my son and my mother in law, and a lady asked me if I was the grandma. I cried about it for days!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
