Our Pet Bird

If you have spent any time on this blog at all, you know I am terrified of birds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a bird phobia! Several of you have told me about the new Animal Planet show called "My Strange Animal Phobia." You could not pay me a million dollars to be on that show. As I walked through our entry way I spotted this bird on the front porch. I gasped and made sure that the door was locked (like the bird would really open up our front door).
Birds love and adore our front porch. Notice the lovely wiring and fake snake to "scare them away." You see it works well.
As much as I despise birds, I can't chase it off on a cold night like this. Poor thing is trying to find a warm place.
My hunter is home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Steve has been away hunting with Scott in South Arkansas. We are soooo THRILLED that he is back home!!!!!

I was in Venice with some girlfriends last month and I seriously thought of you as I watched tourists feed the pigeons so they'd land all over themselves for pictures- I find that gross!!

The way the snake is by that bird it almost looks like a monkey :) Or maybe it's because I don't have my glasses on! HA!

I have to tell you that looks like a monkey which would freak me out even more. Fears are a terrible thing, and my experience has been that the thing(s) I fear most show up over and over and that defiant bird is confirmation that we are going to face our fears one way or the other. A friend used a fishing net type material, draped around, to keep the birds out of her entry way, maybe you could try something like that.

You make me laugh with your bird stories!! When I was in DC a few weeks ago I thought of you...the birds there are so tame they walk right up to you! You would have been a nervous wreck!!

I thought of you yesterday as I was driving down the road. The man in the truck in front of us had a bird on his shoulder AS HE WAS DRIVING!! It was crazy!

MY friend told me about the way she scared off birds. It works! I got some cheap plastic snakes and put them on my porch. No more birds!!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday.
