The Visit with Santa Claus

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving in South Arkansas with my parents.(I will post pics tomorrow!) On Saturday afternoon we took the girls to see Santa. We told the girls they could ask Santa for three things. Since the Wisemen brought Jesus three gifts, we told the girls Santa could bring them three gifts also.

Sarah Kate carried this little pretend lipstick in to see Santa. She declared as she put on her lipstick," I just gonna stand right here!" She told us that several time. "I just stand RIGHT HERE!"
The girls are peeking at Santa from the back of the line. Sarah Kate is really working that lipstick! Santa makes her a bit nervous!
Emily runs right up to Santa and he was so good to her. She told him two things she wanted. After she came back to us, she got in a panic when she realized she had forgotten to tell him she wanted a Pillow Pet. I told her she could go back up and tell him that. She was relieved that she was able to tell him.
Now for Sarah Kate's turn. She will not go up there. Steve takes her to Santa and she is saying, "I WANT MY MAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Over and over.
After a little bit she decides to sit on the arm of his chair with Steve holding on to her. She was chawed to death.
He is smart! Santa offers candy. We are building some trust here.
Oh.....Santa puts his arm around her. She glares at him. She will not move her head. She only cuts her eyes over at him.
Big sister joins for a group shot. Steve has to stay very near. Emily tells Santa what Sarah Kate wants for Christmas.
Santa talks to her sweetly and then gives her a little hug.
Ahhh....finally in Santa's lap. NO smiles for Sarah Kate with Santa this year. She was glad to get back in the car!

Oh how I love when kids sit on Santa's lap. There are always those kids who do NOT want a thing to do with Santa! Who can blame them? He can be kind of overbearing...I mean how many men do they see during the year who look like that?

You'll have a good laugh with Sarah Kate when she's older over her Santa encounter!

Sweet pictures !

ohhhh that is HILARIOUS!! you are the best story teller!!

my friend has a daughter who hates HATES Santa, every year she has this hilarious but sad picture of her screaming her head off with him. I think she needs to submit them to some sort of a contest.

We are having breakfast with Santa on Saturday morning, and I'm anticipating our visit will go something like yours. She may surprise me, but I'm afraid my Sophie's reaction will be much like your SK's!!!

Too cute though!AND I LOVE your girls dresses. They look darling!

I love it! They have so much personality, which you just can't thank God enough for. :-)
My girls want pillow pets, too. It is the one consistent thing they ask for. It seems like they should be too old for them but they're crazy for them. Thank goodness they are in large supply!

Thank you so much for the great idea of 3 gifts. I have been struggling with my 4yr old daughter wanting everything she saw for Christmas. This idea was so great and an awesome learning tool.

Thank you so much!

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
