More Tubes

Guess who is getting tubes tomorrow?

That would be Emily!

Emily did not pass her hearing test at her 4 year old check-up. The Dr made us an appt. with an audiologist yesterday. The audioligist did not even do a hearing test on Emily because her tympanagram was flat. (Not even sure what that means) The ENT worked us in yesterday and said Emily's ears were completely filled with fluid. He referred to it as "glue ears."

We have known that she did not hear very well. She is always saying,"what you say?" She does not always start words with the right letter. For example, she says biaper for diaper, beetle for needle, tingers for fingers and so on. She complains that her ears hurt all the time and is always wanting drops.

I am so thankful for modern medicine, and the Dr thinks Emily will have perfect hearing in about two weeks.

What a blessing that it's a fairly simply fix! What fun it'll be to watch a whole new world open up to her!

Good luck! Glad it will be a quick fix! :)

If I am remembering correctly, flat tympanograms mean the tympanic membrane isn't able to move due to fluid behind the membrane. This causes a decrease in sound conduction. Glue ear means that there is thick pus/fluid behind the tympanic membrane that resembles the consistency of glue. She is going to be a different little girl when she gets all that cleared out. I bet her speech improves quite rapidly. Prayers for her surgery!!

I had tubes when I was little due to many ear infections. It was great because I never had ear infections after that. Good luck.

Bless her little heart! My cousins had similar problems to your girls and they told their mom that they had straight ear canals instead of slightly slanted. You might want to check in to that.

A flat tympanogram just means there's fluid in the middle ear, impeding the movement of the ear drum. It will cause her to hear as if she's underwater--everything sounds muffled. I bet she'll do great and that you'll see a BIG difference right away! Will be praying for her--and you--tomorrow!!

Awe poor thing. I'm glad they found it before it got serious. Can't wait to hear about her progress after the surgery. I'll say a little prayer for you. (Ok so now I'm singing that song...foreva and eva...ahhh I'm a nerd-lol) but honestly, best wishes for sweet Emily.

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....

New Toys

Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday. So Kristen thinks she has new toys especially for her and Emily is content playing with the remote, magazines, cords and...
