When my parents came to keep the girls while we went to Gulf shores, my Mom brought Emily Pinkalicious. It has been a daily read ever since. I asked Emily if she would like to make some pink cupcakes on Saturday. She hesitantly said , " I guess so." She was afraid that she might turn pink like the little girl in the story. When I convinced her that she would NOT turn pink, she became very excited about our little cooking project.
I always loved cooking with my grandmothers and mother. I hope Emily will share this love. This was her favorite- the sprinkles. I don't think I will ever get them all cleaned up.
As a mother and grandmommy of 2 grandsons, I have made a zillion cuppiecakes in my life and learned the easiest way to do sprinkles without having a huge mess. Pour them into a plate or bowl and after frosting your cupcake, "dip" it into the sprinkles! Works like a charm and the kiddos really can help without getting them everywhere! Keep up the great work of engaging your children. They are little only a short amount of time!
I love Emily!! She is such a little thinker - I wouldn't want to turn pink either. But pink cupcakes...now there is something to get on board with. :-) This post was precious - just like Emily and just like her momma!!
I walk by that book everytime I'm at Target or Books A Million and debate buying it for a future little girl. It is the cutest book! I LOVE this post, it is adorable!!! Emily looks so serious when she cooks! Ha!
We love Pinkalicious too! So much that my blog address is named after it. :)
BTW-I LOVED your cell phone post. I felt the same exact way when I had to get a new phone. My friend called my old phone a "Zack Morris" phone (from Saved by the Bell). It was such a better phone than the TWO I have gone through since. :(
Hey Laurie! I like to sneak over here from Kelly's and see what you and the girls are up to! I just wanted to tell you I have a friend in AL who has a 4y/o and she did a Pinkalicious birthday party for her daughter. I couldn't find the pictures of it on her blog, but here is the link to the photostream:
Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck...
Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now. Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago. We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun! No stress at all, as far as I can remember! I just played. I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year! Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons." WHAT? I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go? I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST....
Friday I decided that Emily was spending too much time watching t.v. I read an article on the internet about how babies learn best with hands on experiences. Emily has always LOVED t.v. She just gets glued to it. I had also been thinking about most all the toys she has are really too babyish for a 10 month old, sooooooooooooooooo I went to Wal-Mart Friday and got her some new toys. I got her a pull-along puppy and a toy in which you drop balls into the top of it and they go through a maze and turn on lights and play music. They were both for babies 12 months and older. Emily likes them, but she can't quite master them yet. She doesn't love them, as I had hoped. But, we have a family member who does LOVE them! It is our crazy cat Kristen. She loves to stalk and attack the puppy and she thinks the balls are for her. She played with them all afternoon on Friday. So Kristen thinks she has new toys especially for her and Emily is content playing with the remote, magazines, cords and...

Blessings! Have a great weekend!
