Snug as a Bug in a Rug

Sarah Kate has NEVER EVER wanted anyone to sleep with her.  In her four and a half years she has stayed in our bed a maximum of about thirty minutes.  There have been nights when she has had an ear ache or a leg ache and I have wanted her to sleep in our bed and she has never wanted any part of it.
She has never ever even gotten in Emily's bed, not even for a bedtime story.
When we went to Gulf Shores this Summer with Kelly and Scott, I wondered how she would do sleeping with Harper or Emily.  I think she slept with Harper a night or two.  I thought of it as a miracle.

I don't know what happened, but on Thursday night, I read the girls a book and Bible and Emily got super super sleepy and asked if she could just stay in Sarah Kate's bed.  SK did NOT object.  I had planned to move E to her bed right before I went to bed, but I got tired and lazy and just left her there.
They slept all night.

Friday night, they both wanted to sleep together.  I let them....They got up at 5:30 a.m.  Not typical.

This brings me to tonight.......I took this picture tonight.  I tried to separate them tonight and they did not want to.
I don't have a praoblem with it...they fall asleep quickly at night and are sleeping all night and Emily has talked and talked about she feels so much better at night having Sarah Kate with her.

I love to go in and look at the girls at night when they are sleeping.  I always set the security system alarm and I usually thank the Lord that we are all togther and safe.

I have thought a lot about that since Friday's tragic, evil event.

Safe.  How can we be safe?

We can't really be safe anywhere.  Not at school, not at church, not at a mall, not at a movie, not on the road......
We are not even safe in our own home.

The Lord Jesus knows the number of our days.  I can do all I can to keep my girls safe, but there are no promises of tomorrow.

I remember when my favorite radio host, J.J. Jasper,  lost his five year old son in a freak accident that J.J. said, " even if I had carried him around on a feather pillow, the Lord knew when his time was to be called home."

I have a peace and a hope that I am safe in Jesus.  The ultimate safe is in heaven with Him.

I was listening to the hymn this morning, "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms."  I love the line that says,  "what have I to fear? what have I to dread? leaning on the Everlasting arms.  "safe and secure from all alarm."

I always say that I am an old and nervous mother.  I am often over protective of my girls.  I am trying to let go of this.  This shows fear and there is no place for fear in the life of a Christian.

I have been finding lots of comfort in God's promises.  Deuteronomy 31:6  "  Be Strong and courageous.  Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you , He will not leave you or forsake you."

I will not fear, God is with me.

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (Paul to Timothy)

This brought tears to my eyes because I still struggle with this for my children and grandchildren. Yet God always speaks to my heart, "Do NOT fear" and I have to trust Him !

Wonderful post!

Laurie I found your blog thru Kelly and enjoy reading about your precious daughters. This post gave me a warm feeling and I think that the girls sleeping together is great. The sisterly bond is a strong one and one that lasts a lifetime if we're lucky. I agree with you about not being safe no matter where we are or what we do. Leaning on the Lord is all that any of us can do. Thanks for a wonderful post. God Bless!

Love this. I had the same conversation with a friend yesterday. She told her older boys, "you aren't safe anywhere buy your eternal salvation is guaranteed."

Oops, should have been "but". Shouldn't be using my phone to comment.

So true- thanks for posting- needed this today. Have a Merry Christmas!
This was beautifully written and really touched my heart. Thank you for sharing.
And I loved the picture of the girls sleeping together. Absolutely precious. I am the mother of two girls as well (ages 5and 2). My youngest won't sleep with anyone. Hopefully someday she'll let her sister sleep in the same bed with her. It'd be nice when we travel :)
I LOVE what J J Jasper said. That is SOOOOO good and true.

Wow. Thank you for sharing this! It is so hard not to fear for our children, but you are right. There is ultimately nothing safer than in the arms of our Lord.

Thank you so much for sharing those comments from J J Jasper. I read this post last week and it really resonated with me. And then 3 days ago, a friend of mine lost her 8-year-old daughter in a tragic accident. I don't know what to do or say to help my sweet friend, but maybe J J's words can provide a small amount of comfort during such a trying time.

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
