Random News of the Week

In January, I noticed what looked like a mole on my bottom lip. I thought, "who gets a mole on their lip?" Of course, my mind always goes to the worst, I thought "this could be melanoma." But, I knew my lips have NEVER seen the sun. I NEVER go without lipstick. (or hairspray) I have been really worried about it and promised myself I would not read about moles on lips on the internet. My mind has gone to awful images about my lip. I have imagined that it is melanoma and it has pierced through my lip to my gums and muscle and jaw bone and in the end they would have to remove my whole lower face and jaw.
I broke down and went to the dermatologist on Monday. I told the nurse I was there for a mole on my lip. She raised her eyebrow and I broke out in a nervous sweat. I sat in that cold room for what seemed like forever. The M.D. came in and pressed on my lip so hard and for so long that it almost pushed me off the table. He determined that I have a hemangioma (A cluster of blood vessels under the skin). He measured it and I go back in July to see if it has grown. If it grows, they will take it off with a laser.
I have been VERY thankful it was not anything more serious.

Diamond the kitten is coming soon......like tomorrow or Monday. This may be the recipe for disaster in our house. I am going to keep Kristen separated from Diamond for the next two or three weeks. I will just give Kristen some coffee and pray for the best. I do not think I have ever mentioned that Kristen loves coffee. When I talked to the cat lady yesterday, she said to give her about thirty minutes notice before we came so she could get "something" put in his cage. Her cell phone was cutting out and so I don't know what she said she needed thirty minutes to get in it's cage. Here again, I have imagined that it is a huge tiger or lion or some cat beast. She said he did not need to be around children. I will be praying! What could it be????? Thirty minutes to coax to it's cage?????? The lady has over 100 cats.

Yesterday we went to a local grocery store to pick up a couple of items. As we were going in the store, a gentleman in his seventies was tying up his little dog to a post outside the store. Emily and Sarah Kate were going nuts over the cute little dog. When we left, Emily asked where the dog was and I told her that the dog had gone home with his daddy. Emily said, " no, that was his Grandpa!!!!!"
We go to the car and Emily was putting on her seat belt. She had been to dance before our grocery store visit so she was wearing her dance clothes. I buckled SK in and I hopped in the front seat. I hear this BIG frustrated scream from Emily. I asked her what the problem was. She replied," This skirt is being very rude!" The big tutu kept getting in the way as she tried to buckle herself in. I don't know about you, but I have worn some clothes that have been very rude before.

Ha! I love this whole post! I'm not one to freak out medically, but I do know what it's like for your head to wander. I'm so thankful it's nothing more. I'm so curious to hear about the cat "tales" as time goes on. Please keep sharing Emily stories, these are the things you'll forget down the road.

Laurie- in January we noticed a lump on our 9 month old's neck. I decided that it was a hemangioma, and after fighting to get her into an MRI (per request from a specialist who thought it could be neuroblastoma cancer) we finally got the news that it is indeed a hemangioma. Specifically, hers is called a "cevernous" hemangioma, there is another type called "strawberry" hemangiomas. After researching, listening to specialists and stuff, they are totally harmless. Usually in children they can grow very rapidly and sometimes impeed the airway requiring surgery, but when they are just there, they let them run their course and eventually go away.

For adults they usually don't get very big. (My brother had one removed from his lip years ago...he was 28?) But now they just inject it with a corticosteriod and it goes away....

No worries....:-) but my mind always go to the worst too. Looking at the baby's neck that first day my first thought was "I didn't save their cord blood" but I never let my mouth speak those words into the air. I simply prayed...and I'll be praying for you too. I pray it resolves quickly on its own. :-)

Your posts are the most random funny things in the world. You make me laugh.
PLEASE do a complete post about the cat lady including pictures.
And I'm so glad you don't have to get your jaw removed. I would have still been your friend though.
Too funny! Braxton has been telling us that his pants are mean lately. Not real sure what that means but he is not happy about it.

Oh Laurie....you are a girl after my own heart....I don't answer the door or leave the house without hair spray or lipstick...actually eye liner too. I often imagine how awful it will be to not wear makeup if I have to have surgery. I couldn't bear to lie and say it is lasered on....I wouldn't want my Pastor to come and pray with me at the hospital...he would not know me without makeup. Oh man...I scare myself without it.

It is so nice to have you post the cute things Emily says...before you know it she will be grown, and if you didn't post it, you would eventually forget it. She really is funny....a really precious girl! I wonder if SK will take after her with her wit?

Have a blessed day HL friend (hair-lip friend). LOL.

Ok the lip thing totally cracked me up. I have this mole on my hand (that I've had my whole life) but a few years ago I thought it looked different. So I of course imagined that I'd have to get it removed, but of course it would had already spread so I would have to have my entire hand removed right in time to be a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding. Needless to say when I had it checked out it was nothing! Glad I'm not the only one who's mind goes crazy!!

I am sooo glad your "mole" was nothing! That is so scary!

Ok...I am confused about Diamond the kitty. Did they cat lady say he shouldn't be around children?? That sounds like it could be a bad thing for Emily and SK! ;)

And, yes, I plenty of clothes that are rude! I'm thinking specifically about pants that give me a "muffin top" tummy! haha You know what I mean?

PS...I really can write even though you might be wondering after that last comment. haha

ha ha! so funny about the 'rude tu-tu'! Glad your jaw isnt going to rot off, too! I would have been the same way... and hello, have you seen the new smoke-free tobacco adds on TV? They have a man who's actual jaw had to be removed! Eeek...
Also, I cannot wait to hear what "something" is that the cat lady had to put in it's cage... it just sounds like a blog post! Ha.. Good Luck! :)

Oh, and I'm with Kelly, your posts are so random, they make me laugh, too. ;) Well, everything you wrote EXCEPT about the "cat lady". She scares me.
Your post made me laugh so hard! I want a full post about the cat lady and your new cat. Too crazy that Kristen drinks coffee!
FUNNIEST BLOG POST EVER.

I found out I had melanoma a few months ago from a little tiny freckle on my chest! I am only 22 years old and put off going to see the dr about it, when I went they thought it had already spread to my bloodstream... a four inch scar across my boob ( I call it my free boob lift) and a month later I found out it hadn't spread... so DON'T EVER PUT OFF GOING TO SEE THE DR!... your hilarious by the way :)

Oh Laurie...I'm sitting here at my desk at work reading this and I was laughing out loud, crying huge tears thinking about that cat lady coaxing something into a cage before you got there. Oh please post some pictures. And then I read the comments before I posted and saw Kelly say she would still be your friend and that made me laugh, too. Although that's not really meant to be funny, I guess. But you know. Anyway, love your posts. And love to hear things that Emily says. I should really blog...but I'm too lazy...or too busy reading other people's.

Complicated

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember life being so complicated when I was in middle school. Everything is so competitive now.  Maybe it was back then and I just didn't realize it. Sarah Kate started playing city league softball a couple of weeks ago.   We've been encouraged to get her private batting lessons. When I was in third grade I started playing softball and I just did it for fun!  No stress at all, as far as I can remember!  I just played.  I wasn't very good, but I liked it! Ha! Emily started band this year!  Before school started, I got a letter from the school district strongly encouraging "your band student to take instrument lessons."  WHAT?  I bought into it and got Emily private clarinet lessons (which she really enjoys)! But, what happened to learning as you go?  I never thought about taking private trumpet lessons when I started band. It seems like most parents are striving for their child to be THE BEST.  I guess that's a go

Something Good to Eat

Ever since Steve and I started dating, when we would go to Mississippi, his aunt would make the BEST ROAST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!! Steve's Dad's side of the family gets together at his Granny's house for lunch every Sunday after church. The food is always sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always taken a liking to his Aunt Judy's roast. It really is the best roast I have ever had. When we were there on Labor Day weekend, my sister in law asked Aunt Judy for the recipe. Aunt Judy began naming all the ingredients. She said Ranch Dressing mix, and I bugged my eyes out and nearly chocked. I HATE RANCH DRESSING. I don't even like to be in the room with it. I had to focus on the word MIX....not the mayo and butter milk and sour cream that you add to it. Just typing those words makes me shudder. The recipe sounded awful as she rattled off the ingredients, but I promise, you have got to make this if you like a good roast. Trust me on this. Here it is: Get a tender chuck

Life in Pictures!

Emily is enjoying her first year in band.  I am very impressed with her playing skill! Sarah Kate was recently awarded the empathy award at her school.  She is very deserving of this! Here we are before the Cotillion Holly Ball.
